Week of July 9th: [REC]2 Limited US Theatrical Run
Aside from being a horrible lover, I also pride myself on the ability to pick out a decent horror film every once in a while. Now I understand that reading Spanish subtitles for 85 minutes already sounds terrifying enough, but I promise you that the upcoming US theatrical release of horror movie[REC]2 is well worth the foreign language credit.
In 2007, directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza dropped the proverbial d-ck hammer with their awesome Spanish horror flick
The original story revolves around a female TV reporter who, along with her camera man, accompanies a local fire station on what they all believe is a routine response call. Upon arriving at an apartment complex, the team soon comes to realize that they are in the middle of an infected madhouse. [REC]2 picks up 15 minutes after the original film’s end, following the helmet cam-sporting SWAT team that has been brought in to control the escalating situation.
Released overseas at the end of last year, [REC]2 quickly achieved the best opening weekend of the year for a Spanish film. In March, the film was released on DVD with an All-Region copy available through Amazon. In anticipation for the upcoming US theatrical run, [REC]2 became available to Video on Demand platforms earlier this month, but be sure and catch this beast on the big screen if you can. Lots of genuine scares, raw panic and blood to be had. It’s a fun take on a concept that otherwise could have been easily repetitive. Great for any women to take their pu–y whipped boyfriends to.
