If you’re not yet familiar with Ruth Wilson, the lovely-looking lady above, you really must get yourself over to Netflix and stream both seasons of Luther, one of 5 British series that will kick in your pretty little American teeth. It takes a lot to upstage Idris Elba, particularly in the first season of Luther, but that’s exactly what Ruth Wilson’s Alice character does. She is pure evil-crazy. She’s not the kind of woman who would leave a cooked bunny in your stew pot; she’d leave your wife’s decapitated head in it. You know what else? She’d get away with it, too, because she’s also brilliant.
Indeed, Alice is like a cross between Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, Hannibal Lecter, and Moriarty. There’s a reason why Idris Elba’s character in Luther is terrified of her: She could seduce him, and he’d wake up the next morning to the aroma of butter and his own testicles, which she’d serve to him for breakfast in bed with a smile on her face (and an apron that didn’t cover her a$$).
Her role was necessarily reduced in the second season, and Alice has been written out of the show for the third season (and the possible feature film following the third season). However, Luther creator and showrunner Neil Cross is taking serious steps to create a spin-off mini-series centered on her character.
“The BBC is very interested in the project,” Cross told Variety today. “The only real question would be how many and how often we would do it — whether it would be a one-off miniseries or a returning miniseries, a co-production or not.”
“The truth is I absolutely adore Alice,” Cross said. “I don’t like to imagine my life without Alice in some way or other. Even if I didn’t sell this thing, I would still end up writing the miniseries. It’s something peculiar, but she’s far more clever than me, far more witty than me, far more everything than me.
“I’ve got storylines going around in my head like trains,” he added.
I would watch the crap out of that series. A sexy, evil serial killer who outsmarts everyone and displays zero remorse? Hell yes.
