Dees is like all the right-wing extremist lunacy of the Internet was distilled down into one human being, and that human being was actually granted some pretty decent Photoshop skills and a bizarre artistic sensibility that would probably have made him a celebrated outsider artist already if it weren’t for the fact that he was convinced Hitler was framed, Obama was from Kenya, Zionists are conspiring to kill us all, and pretty much everything that exists is out to brainwash us. Yes, Dees believes EVERY conspiracy theory. And we mean EVERY conspiracy theory. Join us on a tour of Dees’ talented hands and warped brain.
Part the First: Actual, Non-Crazy Social Commentary
Before we dig deep into this man’s psyche, it’s worth noting that we’re fairly sure that Dees can actually function in the normal world and isn’t a schizophrenic or something, which means it’s OK to laugh at him. We can say this because, as shown above, he’s capable of putting together an image that doesn’t involve the Illuminati, FEMA death camps, or insisting that everything in the world really is trying to kill you. And this is also a good introduction to his work.
Dees has this consistently odd use of perspective that’s actually fairly artistically effective. Everything’s just slightly off and distorted. Not enough that it immediately leaps out, but enough that it catches your eye and instantly makes you uncomfortable. As incredible as it may sound, this guy actually has the talent to provoke thought. Granted, the above image or, say, this:
…isn’t terribly controversial. You probably saw cartoons a bit like this in your newspaper. So the guy can function and can actually make non-controversial images. But this is just the portal to the land of blithering madness that is Deesland.
Part the Second: Everything Is Trying to Kill You
Dees, as you might have guessed, as a small problem with artificial sweeteners. He seems to think it means people are being brainwashed. He’s not a fan of genetically modified food, either:
Here we start to get a taste of the crazy, but let’s be honest here: the only thing that really stands out about these, aside from Dees’ sense of the grotesque, is that they were executed with any actual talent. We’ve all seen self-righteous douchebags get pissed off that somebody, anybody, has the temerity to eat things they don’t like and don’t you understand that all food companies are evil and you should eat organic? So it’s tiresome, but not terribly new.

Here, we’re starting to get a sense of two things: how Dees’ use of odd perspective and grotesque imagery can combine to create an unsettling effect, and just how insane/stupid the man is. The above image literally makes no sense scientifically, but it makes a hell of a picture. But that’s just the start. You name it, he thinks it’s killing you, whether it’s cell towers:

Yes, this man is convinced that jet trails are secretly spraying chemicals all over the earth. Why? Oh, who the hell knows. Probably mind control or something. Hey, speaking of which!
Part the Third: Everything You Know, Including Common Sense, Is Wrong
Dees, being a conspiracy theorist, hates everything that disagrees with his conspiracy theories. Obviously, everyone, from the news networks to the educational system is lying to you! Lying! And teaching your children to be stupid!
And keeping dissenting opinions down!
And lying to you about the Holocaust being true!
Yeah, he thinks the Holocaust was a hoax. Which brings us to…
Part the Fourth: Anti-Semitism is OK, Because Jews Really Are Taking Over the World!
Yes, that image really does imply that the Boy Scouts are a front for the Homeland Security department, which is in turn a front for…Zionists. In fact, a huge chunk of Dees’ site is dedicated to images of Palestinians being repressed by a secret Zionist conspiracy, because that’s a lot easier to believe than decades of bad decisions and the unfortunate clash between Judaism and Islam as religions. No, a secret cabal of Jews did it.
To be fair to Dees, he does attempt to differentiate between Jews, who are just normal people, and Zionists, who are Jews trying to take over the world. And secretly run the Federal Reserve. And were behind 9/11. And framed Hitler. And faked the Holocaust. This guy literally has a photoshop depicting Holocaust deniers as superheroes and saying Hitler was framed. Not that this stops him from invoking Godwin’s Law when convenient, which results in some flat-out baffling shit like this:
So, you see, he doesn’t hate Jews, he just believes everything racists claim about them is actually true. A lot of what he seems to believe from these images comes from a book called “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, a lazy plagiarism of political satire that had nothing to do with the Jews in the first place. Literally, it was a find/replace job. But, to idiots, it’s practically the Holy Bible, and Dees is no exception.
But, still, let’s be fair here. It’s not like he thinks the Illuminati exist and the Bilderberg is a world controlling organization, right? Surely he doesn’t believe EVERY conspiracy?
And it’s not like he’s a raving racist in other respects, right?

Part The Fifth: Let’s All Do the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot
Then there are images like this. I’m assuming this is a 9/11 protest. Or something. It says “9:11 am” in the corner there. But what he’s trying to achieve is just utterly beyond anybody who isn’t on Dees’ own special wavelength that it leaves you flabbergasted.

The sensible reaction to this is “But…but…why? Why do you Photoshop this? Why is a glowing Obama dancing for a zombie Queen Elizabeth II to music on her iPod Nano? What in the seven hells of Thanagar is this?”

Part the Sixth: Conclusion
I almost feel bad for David Dees. When I was praising his use of perspective and his sense of the grotesque, I meant every word I said. There’s a distinct authorial voice here, something you don’t often see in Photoshop. Whether or not Dees, separate from any political opinion, is a good artist isn’t really in my purview, but one thing’s for sure: he’s got a distinct style.
But as far as his opinions go, well…this man must live in a bunker in the middle of nowhere with an untraceable satellite connection or something, as the rest of his gallery, which you can find here, will attest. He thinks our food is out to eat us, that we’re all controlled by secret conspiracies, and that anybody who doesn’t believe what he does must be brainwashed, especially if that person asks simple questions like “What about Occam’s Razor?” Either that or he’s just doing this to get attention and is cynically cranking out these for exposure. But somehow I doubt that. I’m afraid, deep down, that this is sincere, that he really believes this crap.
So I guess I can sum up my opinion of this bizarre outsider artist with a bad pun: Dees Nuts.

I live downtown Chicago and that pic of the Sears Tower crumbling, for 2 seconds, made me a little sick/angry. Never heard of this guy before but he probably truly isn’t that far into the woods, if you don’t exaggerate in his niche you won’t get noticed. This guy is an excellent digital artist. As an art professor, I see a lot of this stuff, but more from the perspective of the left. I have shown his work to my students along with artists with opposing points of view. So, I give a shit about this guy and so do some other people.

Dees has a distinct message as well, which holds in contempt the political, media, corporate, and financial sectors. The wonderful thing about the First Amendment is that divergent and unpopular viewpoints concerning things like America’s foreign policy fall under protected free speech. Dees taps into viewpoints and fears that are more widely held than acknowledged. As a result, he has a global following on the Internet.
Artists have always been eccentric and even off center. Jackson Pollock was an asshole and a drunk, and a brilliant artist. Cat Stevens remains a brilliant musician. Bulldozing his records and CDs because of his Islamic faith will never erase the contributions Cat Stevens has made. When Gary Trudeau made reference to it feeling like 1933 when Obama was elected, too few failed to catch his astute historical reference.
Your rant on Dees comes across like a paid hit piece from the Anti-Defamation League or the Southern Poverty Law Center, which are two smear organizations that exist to discredit and marginalize, but which in the end serve to solidify alternative viewpoints. In today’s social and cultural context, Dees’ take on reality may be more mainstream than you, Dan Steiz, realize. Timmy: You mean the people re-elected him in 2004?
Grandpa: Well, not really Timmy. Again in 2004, lots of votes were lost and stolen and it all came down to the state of Florida where moron’s brother was the Governor. Somehow after a three day delay, we were again told that although he really did not win, moron had again become our President.
Timmy: And then the people did not get upset about being duped again Grandpa?
Grandpa: No Timmy, they went back to drinking, gambling, overworking, useless consumption, watching mindless garbage on the television and being apathetic.
Timmy: When did the Great Bankruptcy really get bad Grandpa?
Grandpa: Well Timmy, you see the great moron was not only our President; he was a war monger and an oil man. During his 8 year reign of terror, he started a war under false pretences and helped make the cost of gasoline almost quadruple. The war Timmy, cost us trillions of dollars and thousands of lives and the high cost of energy put a huge stress down on the country.

The art of David Dees is amazing. His ability to catch the exactly right facial expressions, his way of combining images and putting them into the right context. There are several of his works which amaze me and make me laugh time and time again, even though I’ve seen them many times before.

Well, I guess I should weigh in on this discussion. Last week a friend sent me Dan’s article, after only a few lines of insults I started to laugh, and then the part about the vaccine art Dan writes, “Again, a little more extreme than usual, but about what you’d expect from some clueless ass-clown who only dimly understands what vaccines actually are and what they do”, I just lost it. I actually howled with laughter, this Dan is funny as hell.
But suddenly I thought, wait a minute, this guy is goofing right? No one can be this uninformed about vaccine dangers, it is viral on the internet that vaccine serum is spiked with Mercury and causes horrible nerve degenerative disorders. Maybe Dan is kidding, maybe he is a double agent, you know, like when an amazing actor like Leonardo Dicaprio played that retarded kid in Gilbert Grape, amazingly real, very convincing. I was thinking maybe this Dan is really a genius and he is sucking us in acting like a dumbass and pretending that he does not understand about chemtrails and Compact Fluorescent Lighting health effects, what a great angle for an article! But woefully I got to the very end and realized that he was not kidding.

Her application of dialectical manipulation produced the desired result of getting you to obey [the synthesis], but it messed you up and left your mind weakened, which is what was imputed into her, your father, and the rest of society, leaving them as slaves to the masters, which have imputed these mind control techniques for thousands of years through education [and the television].
In most cases the one being manipulated does not recognize that he is being manipulated. Today dialectical manipulation is most often referred to as “TRAUMA-BASED MIND CONTROL!” Slavery of every form originates out of trauma-based mind control techniques. If you did not yield your life in the systems of outright slavery, you were put to death; and if you did not yield your life and bow and do the feudalist master’s will, you were put to death, or left to die. But you did not own lands in either, forcing you to deal with those in power over you. Today, every state in the United States of America, as well as every county, city and town, are all corporations. The corporations wield power over you, and have replaced the barons and lords of the feudalist system. The king remains, although most of you do not realize it. The Federal Reserve Banking System which is owned completely by the elite, is the king. The King, or Fed has NEVER been audited, and its stockholders are all private, so that you will not learn the truth of how they manipulate you. Today, unlike in jolly old England, where they tried to take over the world economically but failed, the system is nearing perfection, as there are now 163 central banks, or “kings”, or oligarchs, strategically positioned throughout the world. The elite are stretching and reaching to take over the world completely, and they are using your children, and harvesting them, and using them as they have for thousands of years, to generate capital.

I would just like to add my thoughts on this matter. Your article truly undoes itself, we do not need to say anything. The thing about truth is it comes in three stages, first ridiculed, second violently opposed and third accepted. It seems we are still on the first stage with you. It strikes somewhat of a school playground tactic, name calling and so on. You are paid to be funny? Yes Justen Robertson. I don’t get why people seem to think conspiracy theorists are attacking Jews. Yes some of the people involved in the “elite” are Jews for sure. But that is not in any way a condemnation of the Jewish people as a whole. There are good and bad people in all religions.
I was always skeptical of conspiracy theories. I would hear myself saying ” but these guys are politicians. We voted them in. They are on our side.” That was until I was about twenty one when I realized that politics and democracy was the biggest sham this earth has ever seen.

As for David Dees’ art, the guy is a flat out genius. As someone wrote on the Dees FB site, “A Dees picture is worth 500,000 words!” How true. The tiny little details he tucks in his art are oftentimes hysterical funny, such as the Bush in Prison pic with the kids’ book on the floor entitled, “My Pet Goat.” Lol, an obvious reference to the Luciferian love of Baphomet. This guy lived in Sweden. And he is harassed by “unknown authorities” to shut up. Why? Ostracizing and “making fun” of anyone who has different opinion is the first sign of the fact that the person is right. So in reality the condescending & ostracizing text above yet again makes Dees’s statements come through his amazing Art & make even more impact to a majority of thinking people, and indeed make the author of the text above came out as a voice of someone who has been or being paid for doing exactly that.
