The 'No Joke Cut' Of 'Anchorman 2' Reveals A Dark, Brooding Drama

The new “Super-Sized R-Rated Version” of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues promises fans of Ron Burgundy and the News Team a brand new movie. In addition to the film’s theatrical release, the Anchorman 2 Blu-Ray, which was released yesterday, features a new version that director Adam McKay and the editing team pieced together with leftover improve bits from all of the extra takes that they did for each scene. Ultimately, McKay promises us 764 brand new jokes that we didn’t see in the theater, and that’s a pretty unique feature to be offered for such a ridiculous film.

But the fun doesn’t stop there. Well, actually it does, because McKay has also released a trailer for something called the “No Joke Cut,” which reimagines Anchorman 2 as a very serious and passionate drama along the lines of some of the greatest movies ever made.

“People know that Will and I do many joke options for our movies, but I think what gets lost is the fact that underneath the laughs there’s a very powerful drama at work,” writer/director Adam McKay explained in a press release. “Movies like ‘Sophie’s Choice,’ ‘Ordinary People,’ and ‘Breaking the Waves’ are the movies that inspire Will and me. I’m just glad, with the no-joke cut, audiences can finally appreciate the rawness and drama of ‘Anchorman 2.'” (Via HitFix)

It’s easy to write this off as an April Fools’ Day joke, but if it’s real, you’ll watch. You’ll always watch.

Now, to help restore the laughter, here’s the Anchorman 2 gag reel. We should never take away the laughter. Is it wrong that when I watch this, all I think about is how nice it would be to laugh with Paul Rudd? YOU’RE THE ONE WHO LOVES PAUL RUDD!
