I like to peruse old magazine cover art, especially the stuff from the 30′s and 50′s, when every science magazine editor’s mantra seemed to be, “add more propellers to that. MORE. Science!“
So when I recently watched a South Park rerun, I recognized a pattern: Garrison’s vehicle has made many appearances in the past century. Here’s a description for those unfamiliar with the episode (probably NSFW clip here):
Mr. Garrison, tired of the inefficient and frustrating airline check-ins, decides to invent his own vehicle [...] the gyroscope-powered monowheel “IT.” “IT” is a rip on the nickname of the famous Segway PT. “IT” can go up to two hundred miles per hour, gets three hundred miles to the gallon, and is an all-around better mode of travel. The only problem is that it is controlled by an uncomfortable method; using four “flexi-grip handles” that somewhat resemble erect penises; two used by the handles, one in the mouth, and a fourth handle which is inserted into the anus. I’ve put these 8 vintage covers in chronological order, the earliest being from 1914 and the most recent from 1959. Your grandpa loved these.
