Each year, Universal executive Franklin Leonard compiles “The Black List” – a list made by film executives of their favorite screenplays read that year that aren’t currently in production. Yep, it’s a list of all the best scripts that aren’t coming to theaters. Now, sometimes the list gets enough interest that some of the scripts get made (that’s what happened to Juno), so you may see some of these, but chances are, these scripts are destined to sit in agent’s desks, never filmed.
It’s a whopper of a list, with 97 screenplays, many of which are the type of arty biopics and character dramas you guys completely avoid, so we’ve taken the liberty of going through it and listing the scripts that you guys might want to see – specifically, the horror, sci-fi and comic-related ones. (If you want to see the whole thing, Deadline’s got it here.)
Here’s hoping that someday you’ll get to be disappointed by these in the theaters.

Dog Days Under Heaven by yours truly
As humanity is under siege from an invading alien army, radiation from their weapons has mutated all dogs into hyperintelligent canines who see it is up to them to repel the alien invaders. They launch an elaborate plan to build a nuclear ray cannon but become discouraged when they cannot use tools to build it because they lack opposable thumbs. This forces them to team up with a despondent human population beaten down by the alien scourge. Will they succeed before all is lost? Narrated by a smug cockroach.
Now dat’s how ya supposed ta repel da alien invaders!
Dog Days Under Heaven has to be the next line up in the Air Bud saga. Worst idea ever.

Animated. Voiced by John Travolta, Nick Nolte, Norm Macdonald, and Rosie Perez.
I also have a screenplay on that list.
Chuck Norris goes undercover at a circus to expose a child slavery ring.
Tightrope Walker: Texas Ranger.
Oh, I’m sure the scripts just got lost under the screenplay for “Shirtless Werewolves: The Movie”.
At least my screenplay for “Effortlessly Wanking” is in production. Coming to a website near you.
I remember being forced to read Z FOR ZACHARIAH back in school a long time ago exact same premise so it must be an adaptation of the book, its really not that great.
Dog days under heave sounds like a damn fine movie, way better than any on that list. <—- Not sarcasm
Z for Zachariah would be a possibly great film. It is an interesting book I read when I was in high school.
