Yep, it looks like Vin Diesel’s getting his wish: Universal will be distributing another Chronicles of Riddick film – so brace yourself for another incomprehensible sci-fi mess.
The writer and director they had for Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, David Twohy, will be also be back. Variety’s saying that, according to insiders, the film will be closer to Pitch Black and will focus more on Riddick’s character than the world he lives in. Which, of course is what everyone wants from a Vin Diesel flim: a character study. Especially since his characters only have one facial expression, which is somewhere between “I want to kill you” and “I really have no idea what’s going on right now.”
Maybe I’m just being negative because I actually wanted Chronicles of Riddick to be good. I love a big, epic Sci-Fi film, even mindless ones, but there’s a difference between mindless and just plain stupid. Heck, it felt like watching a movie cobbled together from old, rejected He-Man episodes, where they just threw together names like “Necromongers” or “Furyans” and figured that equaled a plot. Come to think of it, Vin Diesel moves around like that hunched over roto-scoped running animation Filmation used over and over again.
No word on whether they’ll be somehow persuading Judi Dench or Thandie Newton to return as…who am I kidding, I don’t have the heart to look up their characters’ name.
Oh, and if you want to try to remember what Chronicles of Riddick was like, here’s the trailer. It almost makes me want to see it again. Almost.

I wrote a script about Vin Diesel doing basic math called 2 Hard 2 Answer.
Say what you will but Chronicles of Riddick gave us the best sexual predator line in history – “It’s been a long time since I smelled beautiful”

Every time The Chronicles of Riddick is shown on TV, I end up watching it. It must be what they call “a guilty pleasure”. Or a “brain defect”.
