SYFY TO WHIP OUT THREE INCHES SUPERHERO PILOT

SYFY is jumping on the TV superhero bandwagon with a newly greenlit pilot for a superhero series called Three Inches.

The official announcement describes it as:

In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter, is struck by lightning, and develops a unique “super” power—the ability to move any object using just his mind … but only a distance of three inches. He’s soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes each gifted with their own extraordinarily ordinary abilities. Together, the unlikely band of heroes proves that “super” is simply a state of mind.

So, we’re getting the traditional comedy Superhero premise: a team of superheroes with less-than-superpowers. It’s something we’ve seen so many times before, that it’s not exactly “imagining greater.”

The most interesting thing for me is the writer, Harley Peyton, who was a writer/producer on David Lynch’s trippy Twin Peaks and wrote the screenplay for the films Less Than Zero and 2001′s unmemorable Bruce Willis vehicle Bandits. Anyone who can adapt themselves to the insanity of Twin Peaks might be able to make the “underpowered superheroes” cliche at least kind of interesting.
