Something good may have come out of the scandal of Gene Simmons’s son totally allegedly plagiarizing Tite Kubo’s Bleach manga, because it drew attention to the manga and showed how large and potentially homicidal dedicated its fanbase is. Now Warner Brothers, who are also adapting Akira, have bought the film rights to Bleach.
Director Peter Segal (Get Smart, Tommy Boy) is negotiating to serve as a producer [...] in a story focusing on a 15-year-old boy who can see ghosts. He meets a female Soul Reaper (who escorts the “souls of the dead”), but a fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer her powers to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy with her old job as a fighter of evil. Ghost seer in a little coat . . .
Seriously though, if they turn this into another Dragonball Evolution (AKA: “Side-saddle Chicken Muncher“) somebody’s going to be writing a very snippy comment on a message board that has no real affiliation with Warner Brothers. That’ll show ‘em.

Female spirit in the body of a 15-year old boy? Finally, a movie that speaks to me.
As long as Loituma spins that leek for nine solid minutes…
Bleach movie? At first, I’d rage. Then I realize that it could be screwed up in the Dragonball Evolution style. And much joy is had for me.
Working in the film industry and being a huge manga/anime fan I have my own thoughts. I also worked on Dragonball , which most of the budget went to fixing picallo’s color in post, as the studio made him brownish orindally. The digital effect guru had only had one real good shot in DBZ and that was the dragon. Bleach is awesome, a young man learns he has the powers to help escort dead and kill hollows. If done now it could have better steam then DBZ which came out 10yrs to late, also Akira coming so late. Luckly the asian market is so huge it can carry a Akira, or A DBZ (which there may be a 2nd movie as it did well in Asia)….DeathNote 1 & 2 came out in Asia and was mildly successful as a live action. If the studios jump on current popular anime, Naruto, Bleach, Kateikyoushi Hitman Reborn!,soul eater. They may have a good shot of being successful….just my 2 cents
You are kidding me? What the hell, first Dragonball, and now Bleach? Forget it! If the sorry excuse of a film industry want to destroy the shows I enjoy in my lifetime so beat it! I am done dealing with morons!
