Syfy to Reboot Phantom, Nobody Cares

The Phantom is one of those characters Hollywood just inexplicably keeps revisiting, like Flash Gordon or Fu Manchu. We’re not sure why. Nobody likes them. Nobody goes to see movies starring them. Nobody tunes in TV shows featuring them. And, yet, there they sit, continually optioned, continually remade.

As you might have guessed from the accompanying photo, this is, as we’ll put down cash money the marketing materials say somewhere, “not your dad’s Phantom”.  No, this is a new Phantom, who apparently likes to run around blindfolded because he thinks this intimidates his enemies instead of making him look like a superhero from the dark days of superhero adaptations in the early ’90s.  Or something.  Actually we think what happened is that this is based on the reboot of the original strip a couple of years back and they couldn’t get that cliched little hood shadow.
