The plot synopsis for the new Riddick film is out…and it certainly sounds like they’re trying to forget all about the insanity that was Chronicles of Riddick.
Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.
Now, if you’ve forgotten what happened during Chronicles of Riddick (and not many people have that much luck), it ended with Riddick being made king of the “Necromongers” while their ship was headed to the mythical “Underverse,” which is another dimension where death doesn’t exist or they all get cake or something. (It’s hard to remember because I was banging my head against the seat in front of me at that point trying to make everything go away.) So, it sounds like they’re going to start this movie by ignoring all of that and instead, Riddick is just being hunted down again by bounty hunters.
Fine. I’m actually OK with that. If you want to show space bounty hunters hunting down Vin Deisel for two hours, I’ll watch that. But if they try to do what they did in the last film – namely to try to make a knock-off Dune with Judi Dench crammed into it for some reason – then I think we can agree that they need to be sent to the “Underverse.” (And by “Underverse”, I mean the unemployment line.)

Chronicles of Riddick is a guilty pleasure. I watch it every time it’s shown on tv. I should probably learn to read or something instead.
i’m baffled by the universal panning of Chronicles, and i’m a h8r. oh, well!
As long as he gets to outrun the sun again, it should be fantastic
I’m sorry America, but Chronicles of Riddick is one of those rare treats where I accidentally watched it and found myself really loving it. I still wonder occasionally how much water I would need to cover my body in in order to survive a 6000 degree sunrise.
Chronicles of Riddick was awesome. It was super-creative and weird and awesome, they tried to do about 10 times as much as every other movie, maybe failed on a few counts, but in terms of giving you your moneys worth, not being afraid to fail and take risks – that was one hell of an enjoyable, original science fiction flick.
kudos to the creators.
