Japan Wants To Build A Giant Robot Solar Disco Moon Ring

Written by Jon Gutierrez / 06.07.10

Japan seems pretty obsessed with the Moon these days. We just reported on their plan to build a robot moon base (Made by robots, for robots) and now Japanese construction firm Shimizu has designed “The Luna Ring,” a giant band of solar panels that wraps around the moon and sends power back to Earth. Also, it’s 1/10th of the way towards making the moon into a giant disco ball, which would be handy for outdoor proms.

Like everything else Japan ever proposes, it’ll be built by robots. Also, the components will be built by different robots in space. But, as a bonus to mankind, those robots could also build a nifty underground moonbase for people that Shimizu has also designed…presumably so the Japanese can have conjugal visits with their robot pals. (It’s important to remember that the Japanese love their robots like we Americans love our cars…by getting in them as often as they can.)
