Yesterday Joe Quesada, Tom Brevoort, and Alex Alonso made an appearance at Midtown Comics in New York City to announce Marvel’s big event for 2011, the new “Fear Itself” series. After the jump is teaser artwork, the trailer, and a look at the villain. Quesada was wearing a Mickey Mouse T-shirt (sucking up to the boss?). The series will start in March 2011 with an oversized one-shot set in WWII written by Ed Brubaker with pencils by Scot Eaton. Then, starting in April 11, Marvel will release seven more issues written by Matt Fraction with pencils by Stuart Immonen, at a cost of $3.99 apiece.
Fraction will maintain his current duties on Invincible Iron Man and Thor through the Fear Itself run, but will be toning down his involvement on Uncanny X-Men. Immonen is dropping his role as artist of Brian Bendis’ New Avengers to focus solely on the event. [...] Not many details about the series were revealed, but it’s clear that Marvel is intent on telling a story based within a real world context but through the eyes of its superheroes… not unlike the approach they took with the immensely successful Civil War. Quesada left his pitch to the crowd on a very mysterious note asking, “Who will be the eight most worthy on the planet?” [IGN]
Oh, oh, I know this one! It’s The Pogues right?

In a related story, Marvel has perfected the “taking an angry shit” face.
Well, at least we now know Ben isn’t the FF member that gives up the ghost.
After Civil War I decided not to read any more Marvel crossovers. This is from a long-time Marvel fan. People make fun of the Clone saga, but atleast the writers cared enough to try their hardest. You could see it. But CiviL War destroyed Spider-man and too THEIR credit they made it even worse after that and now the book is awful and stars a guy I don’t recognize. How can any compentent editor have put that garbage out? I’m speaking about Civil War #2 or Amazing Spider-man #545. It’s so idiotic and was a bad idea to begin with. Yes, JMS, the guy that wrote Murder She Wrote did this. Him and that terrible EIC. JMS wasn’t a Spider-man writer and never was but got to do over 90% of what he wanted to. Think of all the things they could do with an Unmasking story from a real Spider-man writer starring Peter Parker not magically-resurrected idiot man. Look at Batman Unlimited (I think it’s called) It will sell more and beat the hell out of Spider-man every month for a long time.
I’m not sure who Cap… I’m sorry ‘Steve Rogers’ or Iron Man are supposed to be anymore, either. Poeple didn’t buy into ‘evil Tony’. Who the hell is this supposed to be now?
I can’t buy this stuff anymore. I don’t think the intention is good or they put the work into the writing.
‘Fear’What the hell is that? That’s nothing. It’s so empty. Marvel has a long hard road ahead because of stuff like this.
