Shhhh, don’t talk.
Remember that study linking MMR vaccines with autism? The one which The Lancet later retracted after 10 of the 13 authors renounced the conclusions? Now it has also been found fraudulent:
A new examination found, by comparing the reported diagnoses in the paper to hospital records, that [Andrew] Wakefield and colleagues altered facts about patients in their study. The analysis, by British journalist Brian Deer, found that despite the claim in Wakefield’s paper that the 12 children studied were normal until they had the MMR shot, five had previously documented developmental problems. Deer also found that all the cases were somehow misrepresented when he compared data from medical records and the children’s parents. [MSNBC]
Not only did Wakefield perpetrate a fraud, but he was developing his own vaccine to compete with the MMR vaccine he was trying to discredit (and stood to earn millions of dollars on his own vaccine if he succeeded). He was also paid off by a lawyer, Richard Barr, who was trying to mount a class action suit against the manufacturer of the MMR vaccine. Can you say conflict of interest? Can you say, “Why the hell isn’t this doctor in jail?”
And the question on everyone’s mind is, of course, what does Dr. Jenny McCarthy have to say about this?
Anti-Vaccine Position”, which, if I rewrote it, would say, “Jenny McCarthy Doubles Down on Anti-Vaccine Position, Is Allegedly A F*cking Moron”. And if I could get away with not using the “allegedly”, I would. Anyway, here’s her brilliant reaction to new information:
McCarthy defends the study’s author and the parents whose children were studied, quoting one of the parents as saying: “How could the BMJ scrutinize what Brian Deer has said without looking at our children’s medical notes which they are not allowed to have? This needs to be challenged.” [GOOD]
Or to put it another way, “La la la I can’t hear you.” Brian Deer looked at the medical records in the Wakefield study. Saying he didn’t doesn’t change that he did. That’s the cool thing about the scientific method: conclusions have to be verifiable and repeatable. Which means other scientists can scrutinize all the data, and when the results don’t hold up to that peer review, good scientists will admit their hypothesis was wrong instead of, say, taking a pay off from a lawyer to falsify data.
If you’re concerned about the real, verifiable side effects of a vaccine, fine. Look into it and judge the risks. Hmm, is an arm that’s sore for a few hours worth the whole not dying thing? You decide. And maybe you don’t want your kid’s first vaccine done at a clinic three miles from a hospital because you’d be three miles from the ER if the kid turns up allergic to egg products and has a severe allergic reaction. That’s a valid concern. There are real risks to vaccines, and there are imagined risks. The real risks of vaccines are much more tolerable than the diseases these vaccines prevent. Ask your grandparents about polio sometime. If you’re going to risk having your kid — or a baby they come in contact with who is not yet old enough for vaccination — die from an easily preventable disease all because you think — with complete lack of valid scientific proof — that your kid will develop autism from an ingredient that isn’t even in the vaccine anymore, then I hate you. I hate you so much. Dana McCaffery didn’t have to die.
Phil Plait says it well:
Please, please, please: if you know anyone at risk of being affected by antivax propaganda, send them to Immunize for Good. There is a wealth of factual information there, especially in their Fact or Fiction section.
That simple act can save lives.
[Sources: BadAstronomy, GOOD, WashingtonPost, MSNBC, Scepticsbook, all the stuff linked above, and common f*cking sense]

Cognitive dissonance and dissonance reduction. She has invested too much effort to admit to the contrary. She doesn’t want to poop the coffin.
are we sure she’s not autistic? i have the vaccine for that by the way
*points at crotch*
There is a real reason we send physicians to medical school for four years to study medicine, rather than sending them to the Playboy mansion to turn tricks.
Jenny isn’t qualified to voice an opinion on vaccines, it’s a shame she believes otherwise: people are likely to die from her awful advise.
My uncle had polio as a child. He survived and became a doctor, but his pain and what it did to the family was incalculable. My mother was looking after him while grandma was having her 4th child – then he had to go back to hospital. Everything hurt him. How dare these loons deny that vaccines help far more than they hurt? R.I.P. my dear uncle. (died before the age of 60)
What’s the big deal? Why are people so concerned with “saving lives?” We’re all just bags of meat. One or two fewer in the world – or one or two billion fewer – makes no material difference. Life is pointless, brutal, and short. It’s my contention that anyone attempting to save lives or prolong lifespans is simply a sadist.
Dude, she’s gonna need a bigger dose than that.
re: p-dawg
Life is way less brutal and short than it would be without vaccines.
Someone explain why she cant keep a man…she is still pretty hot, finds farting funny, and has that look like she would let you piss on her face, or have sex with a tree (if you are in to that kind of stuff…im not..just sayin)
One thing you should all know: Doctors lie for whomever pays them the most $$$$. Often times it’s big pharma or big insurers. Don’t believe me? Open a potentially costly work comp case or a potentially costly auto accident. You’ll see then how “credible” medical doctors are. Everyone in Amerika has this illusion that doctors are good people and the medical profession is above lies, cheat, dishonesty, etc etc. Your wrong. Dead wrong.
We should all allow Jenny to express her opinion, and I think everyone should listen to it. We need to get those out of the population who are stupid enough to listen to Jenny McCarthy or basically anyone from hollywood for anything other than entertainment. Being pretty, funny, or a good actor only makes you capable of making competent statments on pleasure not medical or scientific information.
I completely agree: the world is utterly overpopulated and we should allow anyone dumb enough to listen to Jenny McCarthy step right off the spaceship.
This website says it all. [www.jennymccarthybodycount.com]
Jenny McCarthy’s vagina is poisoning the world, her asshole is poisoning the world, and her mouth is poisoning the world.
**grabs dick**
Time for an injection.
@dawgcatcher: And this is supposed to be a good thing somehow? Hey, great, suffer longer, and then suffer old age, Alzheimer’s, being forgotten by your children, 80 prescriptions/month. And, in the end, you’re still dead, dirt, and nothing. End result: completely pointless.
Mauiman, you’re so ignorant and cynical it taints my keyboard to write this reply. i have a suggestion: if all doctors are liars it wouldn’t make much sense for you to ever go to one again. after all, they’ll probably just give you the wrong medicine…either on purpose, or on a bet from their receptionist (who thought you looked like an asshole). either way you’ll die pretty soon. enjoy.
re:re: p-dawg
Sure, whatever. Say, why don’t *you* go jump off a really high bridge. Why prolong it?
Mauiman, Before I find your argument valid you must learn to spell America correctly.
Re: Mauiman That’s an awful lot of cynicism in a short post. Not all doctors “lie for whomever pays them the most $$$.” I know quite a few doctors who are conscientious and honest. In fact, many of the doctors I know won’t come within 100ft. of a PI (personal injury) claim because THEY view most of them as scams. There are plenty of liars in any occupation, doctors are probably no better or worse than anyone else. Beyond that I say let her yammer on. If anyone takes their advice from a pair of tits they get what they deserve. Just proves Darwin’s theory.
I am so sick of Jenny Goddamn McCarthy and her whiny bullshit. She said she cured her son’s autism with detox and vitamins. AUTISM IS IN-FUCKING-CURABLE. Which means one of two things for McCarthy: 1. Her son has a mild form of autism, so she’s able to pass him off as normal now, and she’s a fucking imbecile, or 2. He never had autism and she’s a fucking imbecile. Why is it that the null side is represented by doctors and scientists, and the other side is represented by a former model/shitty actress?
Also, Mauiman, not only did several _independent_ organizations do countless studies on this subject, but McCarthy and Co. founded a group whose sole purpose is to prove the link. They’ve been working on it for _10 years_, and have yet to prove anything other than that they’re a danger to public safety and a waste of time and money. Instead of blaming the world’s ills on imaginary conspiracies, take a look at the hard facts.
If you do not understand that the FDA is corrupt, that Big Pharm regularly attacks itself to then justify itself in matters such as this, if you haven’t gotten any info other than what the corporate media has fed you, THEN YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO HAVE AN OPINION.
Uncommon sense states that it is UNNATURAL to inject ANYTHING directly into the bloodstream. Common sense would insist that Toxic Mercury NOT be injected into 12 pound infants, but nah, if big brother sets a snare like this for the average American idiot, then just consider the debate closed.
Nobody who does research like that study, but why aren’t we talking about the European studies which prompted this garbage study, this ostentatious display of a set-up which serves to invalidate all other studies by mere association.
Wow, people are REALLY stupid. It’s getting worse every year how impatient and stupid you people are getting .
Common sense would insist that Toxic Mercury NOT be injected into 12 pound infants
Thimerosal is not mercury, oh expert on chemistry that you clearly are. And even if you wanted to make a false equivalency between the two, thimerosal was phased out of the MMR vaccine years ago. And it still is not mercury.
Wow, people are REALLY stupid.
Well, we can agree on that. And disagree on who qualifies.
Cool, this thread is even more retarded than that time the Juggaloes got mad at us. And let me tell ya, Juggaloes are plenty damn retarded.
Then again, what do *I* know, I am just another sheeple that is force fed information by big media…
The MMR vaccine never contained thimerosal.
If you read the actual paper that Wakefield published he never implicated the MMR vaccine -quote “We did not prove an association between measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine and the syndrome described.” he did find traces of the vaccine in the digestive system of children with autism and he wanted to split out the MMR vaccine into individual shots (instead of 3 at one time). My daughter is autistic and I do not think vaccines caused it, but I know many parents with autistic children who do. This is based on the fact their children were developing normally and then after one or a series of vaccines they develop autism (this is known as regressive autism)
The medical/pharmaceutical community says that vaccines are perfectly safe and don’t cause autism, but they actually have no studies that prove this.
I think the only way to prove this once and for all is to do a study with a group of children and vaccinate half of them and the other half don’t. study those results and then you might have some results that would mean something.
he wanted to split out the MMR vaccine into individual shots
Yes, and he wanted to sell those individual shots, which he held a patent on and stood to earn millions of dollars from. Why do the same people who claim vaccines are a money scam never seem to notice the conspiracy theorists are also selling them something, probably at a much higher price?
I do not think vaccines caused it, but I know many parents with autistic children who do.
Believing something doesn’t make it a proven scientific fact, no matter how much the news media likes to throw around the concept of “balance”.
This is based on the fact their children were developing normally and then after one or a series of vaccines they develop autism (this is known as regressive autism)
Also known as bullshit. Pervasive development disorders often aren’t diagnosed until the kid is a little older. This doesn’t mean you can look at whatever happened recently and say, “The kid stopped wearing diapers, so underwear must cause autism” or “The kid started drinking from a sippy cup instead of a bottle. Ban sippy cups.”
The medical/pharmaceutical community says that vaccines are perfectly safe and don’t cause autism, but they actually have no studies that prove this.
First off, you can’t prove a negative. If I say there is an invisible elephant in your living room, you can’t prove it’s not there. That doesn’t “prove” it is there. If anyone wants to claim vaccines cause autism, the burden of proof is on THEM to show that it does, not someone else to prove it doesn’t. This is basic scientific literacy stuff here.
I think the only way to prove this once and for all is to do a study with a group of children and vaccinate half of them and the other half don’t. study those results and then you might have some results that would mean something.
HOLY SHIT, THEY HAVE DONE THIS. OVER AND OVER AND OVER. JESUS.
I need to just stop reading these comments. It’s the Juggalo invasion all over again.
Mom?
Maybe you can’t say it but I will:
Jenny McCarthy Is A Fucking Moron
I’d still hit it.
For you conspiracy buffs, did it ever dawn on you that Wakefield IS the conspiracy? He deceived people for his own backroom gain from his crony lawyer friends and his patent for the competing product. That’s it. THAT’S THE CONSPIRACY!
Yes, and he wanted to sell those individual shots, which he held a patent on and stood to earn millions of dollars from. Why do the same people who claim vaccines are a money scam never seem to notice the conspiracy theorists are also selling them something, probably at a much higher price?
You do realize that many that accuse Wakefield of this very thing have patents or are involved in the manufacturing of vaccines. (look up Dr Paul Offit as an example) By you logic if Wakefield is corrupt than that would make these others as well.
Actually this isn’t bullshit at all. I know of many people that say that the changes were instantaneous after receiving shots. Look up the story of Rep. Jim Burton (who called for hearings on vaccines) he said “My only grandson became autistic right before my eyes – shortly after receiving his federally recommended and state-mandated vaccines” Honestly there are thousands of parents who see this happen, which is why this debate is still around. Just because you haven’t experienced it or don’t believe it doesn’t make it less real.
Actually I think you’re wrong on this too. Burden of proof does not necessarily lie with the person making a claim. rather, it is on the person that makes a positive claim (that being that there is no link) and believe me I am sure that both sides of this debate are trying to come up with the specific scientific evidence to back their claims.
HOLY SHIT, THEY HAVE DONE THIS. OVER AND OVER AND OVER. JESUS.
Actually you’re wrong here too. There was a danish study done, but it is different than the states…we get different types and numbers of shots (36 required shots in the US compared to 12 in Denmark) and Jesus had nothing to do with this……lol
As I stated before I do not believe vaccines had anything to do with my daughter, but I do feel like it’s possible they could be one of the many environmental triggers that cause this disease. it’s gone up 50% in just a few years and it’s growing….i hope none of you ever have to deal with it.
This particular vaccine may be perfectly fine. Not all are.
My doctor said vaccine was bad for my heart, so I had to stop drinking coffee.
Mauiman said: Your wrong.
I get a huge boner whenever someone tells me I’m wrong while spelling “you’re” incorrectly.
PK wrote: “are we sure she’s not autistic? i have the vaccine for that by the way *points at crotch*”
Shame on you, PK. If THAT worked, Jenny would’ve built up enough immunity for everyone on the planet by now.
Despite this idiotic studies obvious fallacies,ie; having only 12 children in “any” study should be a sure fire no-brainer that the study is utterly pointless. It saddens me that so many people can use this study as proof that there is no causal relationship between autism and vaccines. Hello! just because some jerk-wad piece o shit did a flagrant and fallacious study, does not prove that these vaccines are safe for infants. In fact if you look at the data involving mercury and brain development and the dosage exposures that are considered acceptable levels for adults and than look at what we are willingly exposing our infant children to, alarms should be going off. Im not saying we shouldn’t vaccinate our children, i am simply saying that just because some idiot did a study that was completely fallacious and in major conflict of interest….that does not mean we should close the door on future studies or new advances in safer vaccinations for children. Autism is real and one bad study does not prove there is not a possible correlation between mercury infantile exposure in vaccination and autism let alone other possible psychological and neural development problems.
Keep in mind our government is more worried about “acceptable” levels of risk for the “greater good” aka measles and polio suck-ass so we really don’t give a shit if 1/1000 children ie your genetically predisposed child develops autism due to latent mercury exposure at an excessively young age.
Educate yourselves people the gov and many a scientist have no problem lieing to you if it gets the results they believe are best for the country. They also do not want to get sued for there rash decisions and mistakes.
On the other hand.. Jenny has no business making any statements about autism, studies, or whether or not vaccinations are an acceptable risk to the public.
Damnation Titration, please name one vaccine kids are injected with right now that has even the smallest trace amounts of mercury in it. I’ll give you the answer: “Since 2001, with the exception of some influenza (flu) vaccines, thimerosal is not used as a preservative in routinely recommended childhood vaccines.” [Source]
And yet studies (real studies, not fraudulent ones) have found no correlation between phasing out thimerosal and autism diagnosis rates. Where I come from, a complete lack of correlation means, “I guess my hypothesis was wrong. I’ll stop harping on the same rumors and paranoia over and over and over now.”
As for the person earlier who said, “Burden of proof does not necessarily lie with the person making a claim. rather, it is on the person that makes a positive claim (that being that there is no link) …” Holy shit are you kidding me? Burden of proof in science ALWAYS lies with a person making the claim. And saying there is “no link” is by definition not a positive claim. I bolded the key word for you. Saying there is no link between two variables is the default position that should always be taken until a link can be proven through the scientific method. And even if a correlation is discovered, the burden of proof for then proving causation requires even more research. And if that’s proven, any scientists worth a damn will accept and incorporate the new data into our view of the world, instead of being fueled by paranoia, ego, and cognitive dissonance. Science. It works, bitches.
And even if a correlation is discovered, the burden of proof for then proving causation requires even more research
I’m starting to notice a correlation between people who can’t spell and people who don’t understand facts.
*commences research*
Please note that Cupcake Dog was busy researching how to get up on the counter to steal some cupcakes and thus, unable to appear with my last comment.
If I say there is an invisible elephant in your living room, you can’t prove it’s not there.
HOLY SHIT INVISIBLE ELEPHANTS WITH POLIO ARE GOING TO INJECT MY CHILDREN WITH MERCURY i must start a website about this immediately SOMEONE CALL STEVEN TYLER
Invisible elephants won’t come near my living room because I have invisible mice.
Boyd Haley, Professor and Chair, Department of Chemistry University of Kentucky writes: “I have tested vaccines with and without thimerosal with regards to their ability to inhibit important enzymes in brain tissue and in a series of purified mammalian enzymes critical for normal cell metabolism.
Hello? What academic credentials do you got? Idiot.
Betty, you mean the same Boyd Haley who founded a company selling chelation therapy products to autistic parents and whose study results could not be reproduced by the US Public Health Service?
Wow, Robo. A lot of your new commenters are scientists.
Unfortunately, they’re Christian Scientists.
Who cares she’s hot? If still hit it!
She’s real purty and is (sort of) a celebrity. Therefore, I obviously should risk the lives of my kids and all pre-vax age babies with whom my kids come into contact solely because she continues to support a discredited, fraudulent study. It’s all so clear to me now – what a fool I’ve been! Great bewbs = she knows what she’s talking about.
herp de derp
You know, because of this ass hat doctor I have to explain to people when I tell them my oldest has autism that it was not the flu shot that did it. Shame about stupid is that it mutates into even more loathsome forms.
