Mortal Kombat Gritty Reboot to Get Over Here?

Despite the general bad rep Paul W.S. Anderson and video game movies get, the first “Mortal Kombat” movie was actually pretty good. Yes, it was a cheesy ’90s martial arts movie, but it had a sense of humor, and like most Paul W.S. Anderson movies, it knew precisely what it was.
“Annihilation”, on the other hand, was pretty frickin’ terrible and not unreasonably ended the franchise. So we’re ripe for a reboot, and in this day and age, that means dark, gritty and as realistic as “Mortal Kombat” can actually be…meaning not much. Still, a seven minute test short was produced demonstrating that it can at least have a cheesily entertaining “Saw”-like vibe.
So, why the photo of Jeri Ryan? She’s confirmed that seven minute short has been greenlighted as an actual, honest-to-God movie, so we’re going to see “realistic” Baraka, Reptile and all the rest. I don’t know about you, but I want to see realistic Noob Saibot.
If you somehow missed that seven minute trailer? It’s on the next slide.
