“X-Men: First Class” Meets…Insurance?

Aside from Iceman’s next-of-kin form (at right: no, really), the worlds of the X-Men and insurance rarely intersect. But this ad is actually pretty fascinating for the implications.

For those unfamiliar: Farmers Insurance currently has a series of ads about Farmer’s University, which are mostly an excuse for an unnamed character, played by J.K. Simmons (Cave Johnson to you), to play it deadpan. Apparently these ads take place in the 1960s, as demonstrated by Beast being there…which forces us to assume that Simmons is, in fact, playing Cave Johnson, who has taken a side gig teaching about sales to earn a living as he dumps millions into Aperture Science.

Which means Half-Life and the X-Men movies share the same continuity. GLaDOS runs the Danger Room! Black Mesa built the Sentinels! It all makes sense, if you’ve had as much cough medicine today as I have!

But don’t take my word for it: see the ad on the next page and judge for yourself.

In all seriousness, this has to be the most bizarre cross-promotion I’ve ever seen, but at least it’s pretty funny.
