Of all the pulp heroes to hit film, “Doc Savage” is probably the one who got the least respect. The 1975 movie was going to suck no matter how you slice it, but the sudden loss of money halfway through turned a camp disaster in a flat-out total one.
Now, Shane Black is going to right some wrongs.
Black, who you might remember from “Lethal Weapon” and is currently working on “Iron Man 3″, is apparently ready to go with the good Doc, working on a script and basically wanting to deliver another “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Whenever an action period piece comes up, they always mention “Raiders”, but if anybody can pull it off, it’s Shane Black. Here’s hoping this comes together.

I dunno, I think the best modern version of “Doc Savage” we could hope for would be the original Team Venture.
Yeah, the character doesn’t get much respect and also has probably been the most “borrowed” from. It’s time he got the recognition he deserved (and Lester Dent as well). He was advertised as a “superman” – was the Man of Bronze before there was a “Man of Steel”. Had cool planes, cars, airships and a submarine along with gadgets before Batman. Be nice to see him reclaim the Fortress of Solitude too. Oh, and Spock’s nerve-pinch deal…
