Welcome to Gamma Squad's regular Friday comic book cosplay feature, spotlighting the best superhero (and villain) related costuming from the cosplay community. We're casting the spotlight onto those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.
Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.
The theme for the upcoming month is:
- Spider-man and Friends
But in the meantime, let's continue with this week's selection.
Jim Lee era Rogue certainly seems to be the most popular take on the character amongst cosplayers. Perhaps because, thanks to the 90s cartoon, that take is arguably the most recognizable. Or maybe it's the epic hair.
Great to see a cosplayer tackling a challenging costume - in this case Cyborg as influenced by the Teen Titans cartoon.
One of Marvel's oldest characters - and one that's gone through a lot of changes over the years. But this take on Patsy's Avengers identity most definitely stands out.
A variation on the traditional Green Lantern as the Red Lantern possessed Guy Gardner's recreated and looking amazing. (And a little scary.)
Perennial favorite Vampirella is recreated here by Jennique Adams, who takes the character back to her burlesque roots.
Doctor Doom cosplay by Michael Keeves of TheSuperheroCostumingForum.
One thing we've learned - don't argue with Doom. So this costume's place in our cosplay feature was ensured. Fantastic detail in this recreation.
As yet, still to be revealed within the rebooted DC universe, that hasn't stopped cosplayers embracing Power Girl, as this great costumer shows.
Cyclops' fashion choices may be questionable, including this costume from Astonishing X-men which saw the character dubbed 'Captain Condom', but they don't seem to have turned people off, including this dedicated cosplayer, who has done a great job recreating the costume.
The character of Zantanna seems to be unfairly judged by her costume, but many cosplayers seem determined to embrace the character. And Andserkiel does a fantastic job with her cosplay.
M.O.D.O.K. cosplay by Scott Whipple of TheSuperheroCostumingForum.
A truly epic costume to finish of this week's selection - less cosplay, more a mobile sculpture. Incredible work involved here.
