Are you a Playstation 3 owner hoping the much-anticipated The Last Guardian will actually come out sometime during your lifetime? Well, get ready for some bad news — Fumito Ueda, director of The Last Guardian and main mind behind cult favorite games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, has reportedly left Sony. Apparently he’s still working to finish Last Guardian on a freelance basis, but him not actually being in the office certainly can’t be helping what’s already been a protracted, troubled development cycle.
Last Guardian was first announced back in 2007, and was supposed to come out sometime in late 2011. Unfortunately the game not only didn’t arrive this year, but it disappeared altogether from Sony’s line-up at trade shows. It now has a murky “sometime in 2012″ release date.
Hopefully the game somehow makes it to store shelves, but at this point it’s not looking good. Come on Ueda, we need something to shove in Roger Ebert’s face in tedious “Games Are Too Art Old Man!” editorials. Games journalism needs this. Uh, also it will probably be pretty fun and stuff.

I’m pretty sure it’s all those damn feathers that’s held this thing back.
