Is everybody sure that’s NIN on the soundtrack?
Not that we don’t love Trent Reznor, but if everybody and their mom hadn’t been going on about how this was a Nine Inch Nails score, we wouldn’t have even guessed it was, well, anybody we even knew of, with the possible exception of crappy action movie virtuoso Brian Tyler. It’s that cheesy and dated.
We don’t often talk about game scores here at Gamma Squad, although perhaps we should, since every year, they vastly improve, and beginning to rival film scores. Michael McCann’s ambient work on “Deus Ex” and Andrew Hale’s jazzy and mournful score for “L.A. Noire” are just two examples from the last year of games with a really superbly done score. So maybe instead of hiring Nine Inch Nails, the industrial rock band, guys, you should Trent Reznor, Oscar-winning composer. Just saying.
Trailer under the jump if you want to give it a listen.
Hat tip to Kotaku for pointing this out.

Eh, I thought Brian Tyler’s score from Children of Dune was one of the better scores from the early 2000′s.
Oh, Tyler’s pretty good. He just consistently gets hired to compose for crap movies, and there’s only so much you can do with crap movies.
This is an older song, off the Nine Inch Nails album, “The Fragile”. The song is “The Way Out is Through.” Chances are he’s just letting the game use it for the commercial and isn’t actually scoring the entire game. He does this a lot. Just thought I’d put in some of my NIN knowledge. =)
That’s what I get for listening to “The Fragile” maybe once or twice a year.
This is no different then “Counting Bodies Like Sheep” being used in the Rage trailers late last year. APC and Maynard didn’t score the game, and Trent isn’t scoring this one
Just as an FYI, the song is “The Mark Has Been Made.”
