One thing we didn’t want to talk about in our fairly lengthy and nitpicky review of “Mass Effect 3″ is the story. We probably would have been murdered by people who hadn’t played the game yet for spoilers, first of all, and secondly, we wanted people to actually see it.
So, did you love it? Or did you think, as some do, that BioWare has spent the last five years yanking our collective chain?
Here’s what we think:
It’s not a bad ending, if a little predictable, and that post-credits sequence is wince-inducing with how obvious it is. But it’s understandable some people are disappointed: after all, you spend all this time and effort to save the galaxy and ultimately, the galaxy gets utterly trashed anyway, even if species survive.
Also, despite the best efforts of the writers, it’s really hard to believe the Reapers think of themselves as good guys. Come on, really? It’s better than a mustache twirling robot, we suppose, but still.
So…your thoughts?

It has been out for 7 days, man.
What can I say, I’m obsessed. Sleep is unnecessary.
It was objectively the worst ending to any game ever. I know it makes me mega-nerdy, but I actually am kinda with those guys who want a new DLC ending.
I wasn’t filled with the same rage that seems to be gripping a large portion of the internet community, but I was pretty disappointed. I think the complaint that we’re seeing three games’ worth of decision-making rendered moot in the home stretch is valid, and I personally was REALLY let down by the lack of any sort of satisfying prologue.

after 200+ hours invested in the franchise, multiple walkthroughs, sleepless nights… i get a low res, shitty mov showing destruction of the ME universe at its foundation whatever path i chose at the end, last ten minutes being a non interactive slog with a main villain asking me for a color preference…
man, was i dissapointed, mainly because it’s the end of the one of the greatest game series ever, but i was counting for a Return of the King cheese fest – checking out what happened to the rest of the cast – Wrex and his kids; Garrus and Tali; Shep getting finally some peace and shagging the crap out his/hers partner (choose name); Kaidan getting cozy with Cortez, etc…
Yes, i wanted a happy ending, with a hint of more ME universe set titles to come, because the franchise is great (better than SW imo), but the finality of the ending kinda said: NO.
I agree the wrap-up for the individual plotlines is lacking, absolutely.
I finished it yesterday and just replayed the last 20 minutes with the two other choices. More than anything it’s disappointing that your actions ultimately have no real bearing on then end. It’s pick one of three options and watch the same ending with slight variations. That wouldn’t have been so bad if they spent time with the characters you’ve come to know or shown the result of your efforts having a lasting impact on the people you’ve saved.
dude got it right 101%:

It felt incomplete, nor real closure to anything, but I’m optimistic EA/Bioware has something up their sleeves to fix it. In the meantime, look up the ‘indoctrination theory’, it’s pretty interesting…
*no real
As I was playing ME3 I started thinking about how I want to play through the first two games again just to see how other choices would play out. After I watched the ending I made the choice to never even think about playing any of them again.
