Well, we were promised violence and bloodshed. And boy did the finale deliver.
We won’t get into spoilers, but we will say that we’ve been…tentative about this season. While the last three episodes have paid off pretty amazingly, the entire arc of the first half of the season seemed practically designed to make us hate Rick and think Shane, as douchey as he acted, was the voice of reason.
Not anymore, apparently. It’s become clear that the second season is really, in the end, all about how Rick turns from believing that humanity can make a comeback and the walkers are just temporary into accepting that nothing is going to be the same, full stop. When Rick cuts through the B.S. at the camp site, it’s welcome, to say the least.
We have complaints about the finale: Rick’s announcement of what he learned at the CDC was…kind of obvious. Also, we’re not sure introducing the character that they did is going to be a good idea for Season Three.
Still, after a season this uneven, Season 3 is looking better and better. We can’t wait.

For every episode Carl doesn’t die I write the name of a writer on my leather slapping glove. Newtons for days, yo.
I imagine either Carl or Lori is headed for the walker cafeteria in Season Three.
I actually had a similar thought about the new character introduction. I love the idea of the character from the comic books, and the characters could obviously use a jolt of fresh energy — but I can’t help but wonder how it will fit in with in the slightly different world the TV show has generated around itself?
i’m waaaaaaaaay more interested in all the new characters waiting behind the walls of the prison they showed in the last shot.
oh yeah, spoilers.
and whats up with the helicopter from the opening shots? not a lot is being said about that.
If someone were to create a March Madness bracket on worst TV character ever, I think Laurie and Carl could be combined into a powerhouse #1 seed. They’d dominate like UCLA in the 70′s.
Still have to get past Wesley Crusher.
Yeah I don’t remember the helo from season 1. But I guess how do you show the zombie horde from Atlanta running out of food and moving in that direction. Lead in to season 3 seems great. Need more action like the first 20 min. I like Hershel with the 40 round shotgun…uh wait. Rick and Daryl will be new bad asses.
The chopper goes over rick when hes in the city in like episode 2
Anyone else laugh their ass off when T-Dog said “we should head for the coast and get out of here.” Horror movie 101. Brothers always know to just get out, and white people always get them killed. haha.
Lori and carl need to die. horribly.
hershel has unlimited ammo unlocked on his shotgun.
Yes. Yes they do.
The drive by shooting was quite accurate too. aimbot.
I have been waiting for Michonne since the second episode of season 1. Showing up like she did was a great way to make her presence felt and I think it bodes well for next season… especially with the Governor coming up.
And The Hammer nailed it (PUN), I was watching Hershel fire off round after round thinking, when does he reload?
Michonne and a lot of the potential new characters from the comics should help this show in the long run. Not only because of some of the story lines from the comics they could follow, but also because they’ve shown they’ll take it in a new direction with pretty much any character.
All they really need to avoid is drawing out things like they did this season. They did more episodes than season one, but it just felt like it was all to say “guys season 3 will be worth it”
Adding Michonne was necessary, and how they did it was brilliantly executed. But, dammit, kill Lori and Carl. Carl is the worst kid since Joffrey in GOT.
Michonne is like an apology for the whiny episodes
I like the slightly-off-his-nut Rick better than the quieter, more stoic Rick. Excellent turn of events.
The reveal about the CDC was a little too late, I think. Would have been nice for him to maybe reveal that after he shot the guys in the bar so a smaller group of them would know for a few episodes.
Still, despite the slow first half, a very successful season overall.
“Also, we’re not sure introducing the character that they did is going to be a good idea for Season Three.” um, what?
It makes sense; for the MOST part, Kirkman is following the storyline that the books do (except for the obvious, that the character line-up is going to be a bit different). However Michonne is definitely a huge part of the series, and so is the prison. not including either of them in S3 just wouldn’t be Walking Dead.
The problem is, well, Michonne (since she’s been outed in the comments) is somewhat clumsily handled in the comics, and I’m worried the same will happen in the show.
i’m really excited about season 3 and have loved everything about the show as a whole. i’m really happy how they’re moving all of the deaths around from the comics and adding more threats, too. and while i love Michonne coming into the mix, my biggest question is: Where’s Tyreese? he was a huge character in the comics and it seems like everyone forgot about him. i hope he isn’t a prisoner. That would tarnish the look and character of the…character.
