“Wonder Woman” #8 ended on a pretty huge cliffhanger. If you haven’t read it, go buy it now. It’s two bucks on Comixology. We’ll wait.
Somewhat caught up? Yes? Good.
Brian Azzarello has been knocking it out of the park with this book. This is a dark take on Wondy’s connection to Greek mythology. What really makes this book horrific, though, are the small moments. The horror here doesn’t come from a psycho in a mask or a demon trying to eat a hero’s soul. Nor does it come from moments of the grotesque, although this book definitely has those.
It comes from the callousness of the gods towards, well, everybody that isn’t themselves. The gods, in this book, are all crazy, bored, and selfish. Other people, even other gods, don’t matter. Hades, in this book, really manifests this.
That said, there’s the occasional funny moment. This issue introduces Aphrodite, and Tony Akins, taking over for Cliff Chiang, has a lot of fun with it in a way I won’t ruin.
How about you? What comic do you think everyone should be reading this week?

The non-believer will die! All hail Cumpleanos, God of Birthday Cakes!
Heh, that’s actually reflecting the final panel of the book and it’s not a spoiler because you need the context to understand what an “Oh, CRAP!” moment it is.
But yeah, Hades looks silly. Until you read the book. He’s a vile little bugger.
Damn, I was going to make the same joke, but mine was way shittier.
Wonder Woman has been the biggest surprise of the New 52 to me. Every issue has been top-shelf.
Azzarello is really bringing his best to this. Now if only we had a truly great Supes book…
action 9 could be included in future absolute editions of all star superman and, except for not having quitely, would fit perfectly.
i actually liked batwoman better than wonder woman. this was the best story issue of batwoman since elegy.
supergirl is consistently good, wonder woman is very good, saga was awesome, and robo was very good. I’m dropping Daredevil after this issue because of wacker trolling david brothers in the letter column.
background: a couple of months ago, at the 4th letter, brothers talked about double shipping and rotating art teams being disrespectful to artists. wacker went into the comments and started an internet pissing contest with brothers which carried over onto the twitterbox. it was crazy childish. flash forward to this month’s issue, and wacker starts the issue by bidding goodbye to khoi pham (leaving after being one of 4 artists in 5 issues, exactly what brothers was complaining about) and ends the column with “Viva brothers! Simperin Steve.”
Oy. I liked “Batwoman” a lot, but Wondy just really does it for me. And yeah, “Supergirl” kicks ass.
Anybody on here read “Dancer?”
I once read Danger as Dancer. Dancer Guerrero. Does that count?
In that I’ll never be able to stop thinking of him as Dancer Guerrero now, yes, it counts.
Hold me closer, Dancer Guerrero.
“Saga” now and forever, because it’s like one of the strongest books to on the market. I’d usually plug “Daredevil” but the art was weak as hell. And even though it’s 1) Drawn by Greg Land 2)A Tie-in, I REALLY dug “Uncanny X-men” this week, as the script is quite solid. Also if you’re not reading “Atomic Robo”, I feel bad for you.
