Online multiplayer is a nice idea in theory, but most online games are only playable for a few weeks at most before they’re completely overtaken by cheaters. Up until now, the only solution for cheaters has been bans, bans and more bans, but moderators are quickly overwhelmed, and bans just make hacker-types cranky.
Well, Rockstar is trying something new with Max Payne 3 — anyone caught cheating won’t be banned outright, they’ll just be segregated into a “Cheaters Pool” where they can only play against other game-breaking jerks. I can see this either going well, or very badly.
Ideally when a cheater is surrounded by nothing but other cheaters they’d realize the error of their ways and give up their exploitative ways. Realistically though, I can see a lot of cheaters really enjoying their little assholes-only clubhouse. Also, cheaters only playing other cheaters constantly could lead to the evolution of super cheaters that will destroy us all.
What do you guys think? Is Rockstar onto something, or are they toying with forces they don’t understand?

I like the idea. Like you said either they see the error of their ways or love being surrounded by there own kind but in the end they are out of the general public.
Yeah, I just wonder if they’ll be happy staying in their jerks-only section. Rockstar, in effect, may be saying “hey, assholes, have this clubhouse where you can plan how to destroy our game more thoroughly.”
Thy should have had his for Red Dead, fuck those respawn point spammers.
I like it. The cheaters are subjected to the shitty tactics of other cheaters but they don’t get banned outright, that seems like a fair trade. Either way, keeps the cheaters off the clean servers.
I think an additional touch would be to colorize their avatars bright yellow so they’re also easy to see. Where’s a cheater? Right there, motherfucker. Right there.
^ This man for president.
this is going to be like sending a juvenile delinquent to jail where they can learn how to be a better criminal. i believe its referred to by law enforcement as Gladiator School.
so, in essence, Rockstar will just be building a better jerk. a bigger, badder, more evil douchebag.
ONE ASSWIPE TO RULE THEM ALL!!!!
What’s to prevent the same “hacker-types” from circumventing a cheaters-only segregation just as easily as they would circumvent a full-on ban? Seems like changing IPs, etc. would just as easily get you out of the jerks club if it could get around a perma-ban.
I like this idea, only I think the cheat rooms should also introduce a trojan to each player that changes the players name to “Cheaty McDouchetard”.
Even better, give their character a sandwich board that says “I CHEAT!”
