Superman Costumes Resemble Spidey's A Little Too Much

At right, you will see Superman’s costume from the upcoming movie.

And, uh, wow.

I hate to be snarky, because really, it’s just a costume, and overall, it’s not like it’s the terrifying ideas that came out of Tim Burton’s brain. Snyder is actually a talented director, once you get past the flashiness, and Superman is fairly suited to his over-the-top, vivid sensibilities.

On the other hand, I’m a nerd and the suit is just…strange. Why the structures on the side? Why does it have a belt buckle sitting at the waist with no belt? I can’t say I’m sorry to see the red underpants gone if for no other reason than hearing the whole “Superman wears underpants on the outside” joke has been annoying since I was five, but it does raise the question of what the deal is.

Even the cape looks weird:

That velvet is just…strange. The textures of the suit and the cape don’t match, and part of me wonders if this is just some red fabric that had to fill in for the display for some reason

This weirdness extends to all Kryptonian clothing, apparently, since Jor-El’s tailor lives in Rivendell:

Granted, these could be prototypes, example models, incomplete, or only used for one or two scenes. And you can’t judge a costume until it moves. It’s just some very…odd decisions here, and it makes us wonder what the overall film will look like.
