At right, you will see Superman’s costume from the upcoming movie.
And, uh, wow.
I hate to be snarky, because really, it’s just a costume, and overall, it’s not like it’s the terrifying ideas that came out of Tim Burton’s brain. Snyder is actually a talented director, once you get past the flashiness, and Superman is fairly suited to his over-the-top, vivid sensibilities.
On the other hand, I’m a nerd and the suit is just…strange. Why the structures on the side? Why does it have a belt buckle sitting at the waist with no belt? I can’t say I’m sorry to see the red underpants gone if for no other reason than hearing the whole “Superman wears underpants on the outside” joke has been annoying since I was five, but it does raise the question of what the deal is.
Even the cape looks weird:

That velvet is just…strange. The textures of the suit and the cape don’t match, and part of me wonders if this is just some red fabric that had to fill in for the display for some reason
This weirdness extends to all Kryptonian clothing, apparently, since Jor-El’s tailor lives in Rivendell:

Granted, these could be prototypes, example models, incomplete, or only used for one or two scenes. And you can’t judge a costume until it moves. It’s just some very…odd decisions here, and it makes us wonder what the overall film will look like.

I think the suit looks good personally, although I agree the buckle with no belt is a bit odd. Maybe they’ll explain it in the movie?
if we’re not supposed to judge the film based on the costumes, then they should show off something other than the costumes. like, i dunno, some of the film maybe.
i miss the underpants and i wish it were flashier. but its better than that shit Jim Lee designed for the New 52.
i don’t get the texture though. does it double as a way to open jars?
The man of steel has a Kevlar codpiece?
BULLSHIT!!!!! It looks too much like MY redesign from 2009. I did this for a contest on a comic book website that I hang out on. I’m due some financial compensation from WB! – [ezy-e.deviantart.com]
I’m also the 11th image that pops up when you do a google image search for “superman redesign”
Yep, it’s blue and everything.
Anyone else not liking the fact that Superman’s cape has a yellow “S” and in both recent movies it doesn’t. Just unnecessary changes to the lore that distract from the movie.
I don’t really miss the yellow S, to be honest. What’s it there for, to keep Green Lantern from frying his cape as a joke?
It’s mi or details, but minor details can be hints to more that isn’t right in the production.
I dig it. You’re snarky.
It’ll probably look better after WB/Nolan forces Snyder to desaturate the shit out of the colors for added grit.
