Sigh. Well, I guess there’s no avoiding it. As the main guy who writes about video games around here, it’s my duty to report that the Mass Effect 3 extended ending DLC came out yesterday. I have no opinion on this one way or the other because opinions make people angry — after the last time I wrote about this I vowed to only state opinions about things less important/controversial than BioWare games. Politics, religion, the meaning of the life — stuff like that.
Hit the jump to check out all the new Mass Effect 3 endings. Or don’t. Doesn’t matter to this no-opinion havin’ guy…
SPOILERS. The videos below contain SPOILERS. If you SPOIL yourself by watching them, don’t come crying your SPOILERY tears to me.
In addition to extending the original color-coded Mass Effect 3 endings, the DLC also includes an entirely new ending.
In order to remain opinion-less, I haven’t actually watched any of the new endings, but I’m sure they’re as satisfying as BioWare fans are appreciative. Now let’s never speak of this again.

Why would i read a blog if i didn’t want to hear your opinion? If i wanted news i’d go to CNN, Huffpo, Drudge, or kkkknights.com
Was the problem that you had an opinion, or that it was “condescending,” “ignorant,” “deplorable,” and “ill-informed?”
Blogger: People complaining about mass effect are stupid crybabies with a Michale Bay level of intelligence
Readers: Don’t be a jerk, we have valid complaints
Blogger: OMG it’s just my opinion, why are you all so mad?
And it begins! [gets out the popcorn].
I admire your dedication to pursuing this story that has clearly divided so many. You get to make at least three silly posts about Kirby or something for putting up with this much spittle-flecking from the commentariat.
Is this that DLC Bioware had to put out because people wouldn’t stop crying over a video games ending? If so, I refuse to watch it as well.
Epic Internet Whining aside (which, I will absolutely concede, was in and of itself pretty shitty) that ending really was lazy garbage and I’m glad they fixed it. But its a shame so many gamers had to be such twats about it in the first place.
Gamefront had IMHO the most even handed take on the whole thing: [www.gamefront.com]
Birch, I’m familiar with your stance on this but if you have time I would love to hear your thoughts on this article or even just a brief rebuttal.
I thought the original ending was a bit short for the amount of time invested in the series by even the average gamer but I’m glad they did this to at least try to appease most people. Then again, haters gone hate or whatever kids these days say so, yeah. At least it was free. You don’t see that everyday.
It wasn’t just that it was short, it was that regardless of what you chose, the outcome was pretty much the same. Ship out runs (different colored!) blast wave, they land on planet, everyone holds hands, the end. Not very satisfying if you’ve been at all invested in this game and expecting the promised consequences to your choices.
Yes a lot of the outrage was extremely immature but some of it was also pretty damn funny ie: the cupcake incident.
But seriously that tri-colored identical bullshit really was a major disservice to the fans and after all the things the devs talked about in various interviews, it created the perception that the ending was reduced to just another corner for EA to cut. Hence the frothing gamer frenzy.
The fact that they kept the dumb child/stargazer ending for the synthesis ending annoys me. Why wouldn’t they have perfect recall of the events just like everyone else at that point who shares in the collective knowledge?
