We’ve been down on the Vita before, but not as down as the Japanese consumer: the Vita is selling almost as well as the PSP in Japan, about ten thousand units a week. American sales are better, but not by much.
Meanwhile, the Nexus 7 has sold more units in a week than Sony has been able to push in the US in a year. True, that’s a tablet computer, but that’s just the problem: it’s a tablet computer that costs $50 less than the Vita and doesn’t require any accessory to complete its basic functions.
Some argue that all the Vita needs are strong games, but there aren’t any on the horizon. Unless you count a Call of Duty: Black Ops tie-in, which Activision is so excited about, it still hasn’t told us who’s developing the damn thing or locked in an actual release date. Secondly, strong games mean nothing when they cost forty freaking dollars.
What do you think? Should Sony give it up, or stick it out? And if they stick it out… what would it take to get you to buy a Vita?

They need to start releasing strong games for it, cut the price about $100, and include an 8 GB memory card and then maybe the thing could start selling.
The memory thing is key.
Redesign the thing so it snaps shut or has *some* sort of screen cover so I can actually transport their portable without destroying it’s fancy screen.
I think they should give it up. Smaller devices with multiple uses are what people want, and the Vita is too big and too limited. I’m 25, which seems like the audience they’re targeting, but I’m too old to be carrying a game boy- especially one that won’t fit in my pocket. Parents aren’t going to shell out $300+ when they can just get their kid a Nintendo 3ds for half that, and teenagers are far more interested in cell phones. And really, between tablets and cell phones, my mobile gaming needs are met. I’ve got the Xperta Play, also made by Sony, and it’s pretty great- a grown up game boy, if you will. To me, that’s where Sony should be spending its resources. A slide out PS controller, a touch screen, games like GTA3, Max Payne, & dozens of emulators off the Android market for cheap, its all I need for gaming while traveling. I have Sam & Max Hit the Road and Day of the Tentacle on this thing- A $40 Black Ops tie in (read: advertisement) can suck it.
If they lower the price and give up on it, I’d buy it in a heart beat. Persona 4 is there, some of the older PSX games are there. And it’s got some neat things.
But only if they did that. I’m a stinker like that.
they shouldn’t kill it. they just need to SUPPORT it. i just got to play my buddies and it’s really cool but there’s like 5 decent games on it right now. and it really needs a price drop. i think around $180 would be the sweet spot
