I don’t hate Rob Liefeld like some people do. As I’ve said before, he may have written and drawn all those awful comics back in the ’90s… but we’re the ones who bought them by the millions.
On the other hand I wouldn’t call him instrumental to the New 52, either. He did the art on Hawk and Dove, part of the first wave of books to get canned, then moved on to some art for Grifter, Savage Hawkman, and Deathstroke, as well as writing chores on the latter two books. In terms of talent it’s easier to argue that Scott Snyder and Jeff Lemire have been the MVPs of the reboot, Snyder with his work on Batman especially.
So of course Liefeld is acting like he saved the company.
As for DC work, I’ve done my job, stopped the bleeding, revived the patient….enjoying my collaborations…

…Seriously?
To Liefeld’s credit, scrolling through his Twitter feed I see he’s pushing the work of other people pretty hard and praising his co-workers. There’s also a pretty hilarious thread where he argues whoever paid $10,000 for a piece of his work got ripped off. Still… seriously?!
Liefeld is moving back to creator owned comics. No word yet on a publisher, but we’re assuming Image will welcome him back with open arms.

Anyone shocked by this? Anyone, anyone? Moving along then.
Less shocked than disappointed, really.
Call us when you learn how to draw feet, Rob.
Actually, we do need to retire that joke since he seems to have taken most of the criticism of his art fairly seriously. Hawk and Dove isn’t Caravaggio but it’s pretty clear he got the point about anatomy.
He’s learned to draw feet a little bit better but his proportions and anatomy are still way off for the most part.
Yeah, he’s not the best artist in the business by a long shot. But the bad old days of the ’90s are passed, we can bash him for TOTALLY NEW failures.
I’m going to go ahead assume he means his leaving is what’s stopped the bleeding and revived the patient. It’s the only thing that makes sense.
I wonder if we can get Kyle Higgins back on Deathstroke.
Haven’t seen any new Liefeld in over a decade, so he could be Alex Ross by now for all I know.
If I wanted to see manboobs I’d take off my shirt.
Whoa, whoa, whoa – don’t include me in the “we’re the ones who bought them” crowd, buddy-boy. No sir.
You can’t tell me with a straight face you weren’t seriously tempted by the book he did with Alan Moore.
Fine. Throw that in my face, why don’t you?
Call me when he starts a series with Bloodpouch.
… That sounds like a “hero” from “Empowered”.
