No more World of Warcraft for Sam Raimi. He’ll survive.
Sam Raimi, like Ridley Scott, seems to be a director that likes to keep a lot of projects on his plate, nibbling, tasting and contemplating before making a final decision on what to direct. Over the past few years he’s been attached to everything from The Hobbit, to The Shadow to a new Tom Clancy movie, to the long in development World of Warcraft flick.
Well, he finally took a break from attaching himself to things and actually made a real movie, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and now that he’s occupied in the merry old land of Oz, he has to clear some debris on his very crowded plate. According to Raimi, that unfortunately includes the World of Warcraft movie…
“Actually, they don’t have me directing ‘World of Warcraft’ anymore because when I took the ‘Oz’ job, they had to move on to another director.”
I’m not overly into the Warcraft universe, but I was psyched to see Raimi return to the sword and sorcery genre. Sadly, I guess a 200 million dollar spiritual successor to Army of Darkness is too awesome a thing to exist.
