So uh, I actually kind of liked the first Silent Hill movie. Then again, I also kind of like the Resident Evil movies, so I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. I watch good movies too! I swear! Dramas with symbolism and subtitles and everything! I don’t just know about Werner Herzog from Internet memes!
Anyways, even though the video game series is pretty much on its last legs, there’s another Silent Hill movie coming out, and it doesn’t look bad. They’ve added more sexy teens and special effects, that’s for sure. Also, Sean Bean as a dad who’s almost certainly going to die, because, well, that’s what he does best.
Hit the jump for the first trailer for the really awkwardly titled Silent Hill: Revelation 3D (seriously, it hurts me just to type it)…
Apparently this movie’s mostly based on Silent Hill 3. I wonder why the folks behind the Silent Hill movies keep avoiding Silent Hill 2 (the best game in the series)? Afraid they might end up with a video game movie that’s legitimately good? It’s okay Hollywood, just because you’ve never done something before doesn’t mean you have to be afraid of it.

He was retconned to survive the first one, unless this is some twist and taking place just in her head and he really did die at the end of the first one.
Hopefully he actually came back from the dead somehow so Sean Bean can die twice as the same character.
He actually did survive the first one, and what I find interesting is that based on the the trailer the initial premise of this movie seems to very
Wait. I thought Bean was the only one who survived the first one. He ends up at their home? But his wife and daughter aren’t? Or something? Shit, now I have to go watch it again…
I liked the Silent Hill movie too. So if that doesn’t scare folks away, nothing will.
This first movie wasn’t bad. Wasn’t an A+ movie either, but they pulled off most of the game. I honestly believe Pyramid Head should not be in these movies. He was introduced in SH2 as a burden of guilt to James. He is one of the most iconic characters in the series, so keep him in that same atmosphere. Silent Hill 2, as a standalone movie, that could be a monster of a film. If the proper cast and themes in the movie were used, it would be amazing.
I feel the need to defend the Resident Evil movies. Not that they are good, because they aren’t, but they are almost perfect B movies. The plots are basically the stream of consciousness ramblings of a 12 year old, but it’s all competently done and I get the impression that nobody involved is taking it all to seriously. They are just stupid, stupid fun.
Hey, don’t need to defend them to me. I’ve watched the first one about half a dozen times and would have no problem watching it again if I found it on TV while flipping channels at 2 AM. But yeah, they’re not actually *good* or anything.
I liked Silent Hill too. And yeah I am pretty sure Sean Bean was the only one who made it out of Silent Hill. The others are still trapped in that world within a world.
So, Ned Stark and Jon Snow are both dead and end up in the horror town from the future?
Personally I enjoyed the fist SH film and thought it was paced and shot rather well. While agree with others that SH 2 is the best game of the series and could easily prove to be a truly moving and scary film this take on the 3rd. game does look promising. And here’ to hoping Sean doesn’t actually die in this film, and yes he did survive the first film! Either way, I’ll be interested in seeing how this film turns out.
Sean Bean, NOT die?! Blasphemy!
