Let's face it: most movies based on video games are too terrible to even watch ironically. That doesn't stop us from daydreaming about a good adaptation and fancasting it with our favorite actors. Several fans on deviantART have gone so far as to create posters for these fictional movie adaptations of video games. The Daily Dip compiled twenty of these fan-made posters. Some of them remake movies which already exist but probably shouldn't have *cough* Street Fighter *cough*. Others change the cast of an adaption in development. For example, there's already an Assassin's Creed movie in development starring Micheal Fassbender, but one fan artist re-cast it with Cillian Murphy.
We've collected eleven of these fan-made posters below, with the artists credited beneath each one. You can check out the other nine over at The Daily Dip.

Nathan Fillion would be great in a number of different Video Game and Comic based movie roles but it kills me that he has gotten older and bigger. They should have frozen him after Firefly and used him for roles perfect for him like an actor version of Winter Soldier.
A Zelda movie has pretty much become my Cubs World Series win at this point. I’d give anything to see it happen in my lifetime.
Every time I saw the trailer for Fellowship of the Ring I always thought it was Zelda at first.
I’m shocked one hasn’t been made yet. Fantasy has become more mainstream thanks to Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, plus you can take one Zelda story (like Ocarina of Time) and break it into a trilogy. Adapting an established story + splitting into 3 films = plenty of hookers and cocaine for studio execs (& = what they did for the Hobbit)
Andy Serkis as Blanka is sort of genius.
Says the UNC fan.
Micheal Bay will soon be signing on to make the Twisted metal trilogy….and yes he will be using CG from The Island still….
My pipe dream is still Leisure Suit Larry staring Rob Schneider….why is everyone staring at me like that?
Ugggh – with the exception of Nathan Fillion, what a horrible selection of casting. Cilian Murphy headlining Assassin’s Creed? Please, no.
+1
god of war with tom hardy? although, i may just want more tom hardy. HAVE YOU SEEN HIM RAPPING WITH A BABY?!?1
Bryan Cranston in a Half Life movie would work.
10 years younger… maybe.
Cranston as Breen? 10 years older, maybe.
I like the Brad Pitt Red Dead Redemption idea… even after that terrible Jesse James movie.
But I’d love to see a Metroid movie starring Charlize Theron but after the disaster that is Bob Hoskins as Mario I don’t think NIntendo will ever do another movie.
Also Pikman created by Pixar
I couldn’t agree with you more about Metroid. I was looking for someone to mention it. Seeing Theron in her skin tight suit from Prometheus screams Samus Aran. I remember rumors when I was in high school (’02-’03 about) of a John Woo adaptation. I’d have little to no faith in Hollywood doing anything remotely decent with the idea however.
They’d make it some girl power/everything blows up disaster like the Resident Evil movies, which themselves, could have been amazing horrors.
Keep the story from getting too convoluted, just go along with Samus as she discovers more and more towards her objectives. It might sound a little crazy but I think Wall-E would be a good reference as to the way a Metroid movie could play out, being that Metroid games tend to have very little dialog/other characters.
This is kind of an unconventional idea, but what about doing a video game adaptation as a series of short films, rather than your traditional 90-120 minute story? Seeing as so many of these stories have silent protagonists… that can be kind of a drag in a long-film, but 20 minutes of wordless tension as Samus explores alien ruins? That could be riveting stuff.
I guess people don’t really go to see short films any more. Just like people don’t really read short stories any more. Still, might be a clever approach. Especially if you could have 5 or 6 short films at one screening.
The thing that sticks out to me about the idea of a portal movie is that it has a silent protaginist, and that all of the games story comes from gladdos. Put a high profile star like portman and she’s gonna have more than a few monolouges
That’s why its “an adaptation” and not “the game itself”.
You cast Glados as the star.
Really, with the movie’s budget, it’d be the best way to make it work.
Timothy Olyphant in Red Dead Redemption would be better.
Couple of things.
1: What the hell is wrong with Nathan Fillon’s forearms?
2: A Half-life movie would require Gordon Freeman to talk thus ruining everything ever.
3: Portal was a fun game to play, but I’m not sure it translates into something fun to watch.
“This summer, Natalie Portman tries for twenty minutes to beat a really difficult puzzle in…PORTAL: Waiting for Chell to Figure It Out”
Uncharted 2 was already Firefly the Game.
I would watch the hell out of a Nathan Fillion Uncharted movie.
I was going to suggest it, but it was mentioned above, and I wholeheartedly agree: Bryan Cranston as Gordon Freeman.
Also can we get a real Resident Evil Movie? Don’t even bother stopping with the current one, just let them go head to head and show anderson which ine people prefer
Honestly no Final Fantasy 7? I’ve been dreaming of that since middle school. Could be a huge trilogy if done right.
As far as i’m concerned advent children is the only movie we need. Dont know why people complain about it
My math sucks… because I don’t count 20
Never gonna happen, but a Pixar Zelda movie would be my dream video-game movie. That, or an Edgar Wright Psychonauts flick. Ooh, Peter Jackson Castlevania!
That was my hope too. But I was thinking of it as Pixar’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. 3 Zelda movies in the Ocarina of Time universe.
Michael Jai White should play Kratos. Lets not kid ourselves, we all know that Kratos is a brother and God of War is really a Blaxploitation movie in a Greek setting.
