There’s nothing Marvel likes better than bumping off beloved characters in a miniseries. These have varied in quality, like any collection of miniseries.
The End centers around a nuclear holocaust, and pretty much manages to be the most depressing thing Marvel has ever put out for the most part, with the Punisher wiping out humanity’s last hope and the Hulk discovering crippling depression. Spider-Man: Reign was infamously bad, not to mention poorly timed as it came on the heels of yet another Quesada rant about how brilliantly creative Marvel was and how stodgy DC was. They’ve done it with just about every major character they own, except Daredevil.
So, needless to say, Daredevil: End of Days is in the works!
The good news is that David Mack, Klaus Janson, Bill Sienkiewicz and Alex Maleev are all back for this miniseries.
The bad news is that Bendis is, too.
I was never a fan of Bendis’ run on Daredevil because “decompression” is the worst thing to happen to comics since the ’90s crash, and frankly, it was frustrating to read a comic written by somebody who feels the need to put every stutter and false start into his dialogue because that’s real, man. Even worse, this is going to be eight issues, easily the longest of these series, unless you could the fact that X-Men: The End took up three miniseries.
On the other hand, the art is going to be unimpeachable and David Mack may be able to keep a lid on Bendis’ more annoying tendencies. We’ll find out in October.

Bendis’ run on Daredevil with Mack & Maleev is actually one of my favorite run of comics in the last 20 years, so consider me stoked.
David Mack is a fucking tracer and a swiper.
Also, The End all have their own continuities/time-lines so saying they are all about nuclear war isn’t quite right. Whatever.
Punisher: The End: Nuclear holocaust. Hulk: The End: Nuclear holocaust. X-Men: The End… they’re off planet.
The only marvel The End comic that ended in a nuclear holocaust was Incredible Hulk. Also I don’t understand the hate for Spider-Man: Reign, it wasn’t the best but it was an interesting alternate reality story.
The whole thing is a blatant ripoff of “The Dark Knight Returns”. Apparently Marvel believed what it was really lacking was radioactive semen. Call me a prig but I don’t think it added much.
marvel universe: the end ended with a nuclear holocaust. i like how they let claremont write the x-men the end series and it took twelve issues to explain how bishop and deathbird had a phoenix kid or someshit.
also too: bendis’s daredevil started out great, but decalogue was one of the most unintentionally hilarious things i’ve ever read. it’s like bendis read every negative review of his work ever written, past present and future and said “OH YEAH?” and then wrote that pile of shit. “all his characters speak with the same voice.” “OH YEAH? Now here’s seven issues with seven narrators telling the same story the same way in the same voice!” “jesus, decompression.” “OH YEAH? How about more than a half a year of comics where the same thing happens every time!”
Dan, I need help. Is decompression a DD storyline I missed or are you referencing something else entirely that I’m equally not understanding?
