Important business conference call
Charlie Sheen told some interesting stories on Episode 84 of Mohr Stories, including the claim that he tried to play Spider-Man back before comic book movies were all the rage. As you can imagine, someone else was described as being completely in the wrong in this scenario.
“I had an office at Orion at the time, and I brought them Spider-Man. I said, ‘Look, in a couple of years, I’ll be too old to play Peter Parker.’ And they said, ‘Yeah, we’re just thinking that cartoons are not the future, comic books are not the future.’ And I said, ‘But it’s Spider-Man, I’m perfect.’ And they were like, ‘Nah, we’re gonna wait.’” [transcribed by THR]
Charlie Sheen didn’t have the rights to the character, but as he tells Jay Mohr on the podcast, “I had a guy in my pocket who was going to get them for me.” Was this guy named Dizzle Skillet? Because he already promised those rights to me in a dice game, Tigerblood.
It never came to Sheen trying to acquire the rights, as Orion wasn’t interested and went bankrupt a while later. You know what would have really made this story awesome? If Ashton Kutcher had been offered the Spider-Man role instead of Tobey Maguire.

Eh, I could see a *non-crazy Charlie Sheen from the mid-90′s or earlier play Spider-Man and possibly pull off the character (don’t get me wrong, the movie would have still sucked, but he could have played Peter Parker).
*I’m sure he was crazy even then, but Twitter and TMZ hadn’t been invented yet so no one would have known.
The only thing more annoying than listening to the Jim Rome show is when Jay Mohr guest hosts. If his podcast is any similar, I feel bad for whomever suffered through it for this news piece.
I like it a lot. It is him and his friends (mostly comedians and actors) sharing a lot of behind the curtain stuff. His best episodes, though, are when his agent stops by. Apparently, Barry Katz was the jumping off point for a lot of big name people.
However, when they bomb, they are painful to listen to. Kevin Nealon’s episode put me to sleep.
SPINNING!!!
Orion pictures? Did he try to pitch this to them between 1984-1986 before he wasn’t a name in Hollywood yet? Eh, I remember hearing that Michael Beihn (from Terminator, Aliens, and Tombstone) was set to play Spider-Man back when James Cameron was gonna direct it. Would be nice to see an adult Spider-Man movie instead of always making him a teen. I’m surprised the new Superman movie isn’t just an extended episode of “Smallville”.
