A few months back we reported that Marvel Studios was thinking about doing a new solo Hulk movie in 2015 because, surprise surprise, it turns out kids liked the fun, smashy, not constantly mopey Hulk of The Avengers a lot.
Well, unfortunately now Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige is saying a new Hulk movie won’t be happening until after the next Avengers flick. Avengers 2 is slated for a 2015 release, so that means Hulk won’t be moving out of the Avengers clubhouse and doing his own thing until at least 2016.
That’s a shame because Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was by far my favorite thing about The Avengers. I remember all the Hulk bits of the movie pretty clearly — the rest is just kind of a blur of feathered Loki mullets and Jeremy Renner bowstring snapping.

This sucks. But I do have a cool pitch on how to do The Hulk justice. We give him a trilogy and it even sets things up for Avengers 3.
Here’s how I would do it:
Avengers 2 should introduce The Sentry (Marvel’s Superman proxy) into the lineup. He’d come in handy against Thanos anyways, but we’re going to need him later for this as well.
1st Hulk Movie – Should pick up directly after Avengers 2 and Shield is trying in vain to un-fuck Hulk’s dna. In the course of doing so they accidentally reverse engineer the Abomination into existence. Hulk and Abomination have it out. The other heroes get cameos of course but one of them gets seriously injured (Hawkeye yayyy) as they try to help Hulk bring the Abomination down. After a few close calls Hulk finally corners the Abomination in Las Vegas and they have a massive casino destroying battle that kills a ton of people and totally levels the city.
In the after math Shield decides that between Hawkeye and most of the people in Las Vegas, the Hulk is just too big a risk and if he lost it, could pretty much end all life on Earth. So they trick Hulk into a rocket and shoot him into space with intention of putting him on an empty planet where he cant hurt anyone. But Hulk wakes up and flips out damaging the rocket’s trajectory and sending him to the brutal and very populated planet Sakaar. Thus setting the stage for Planet Hulk. (Since Fox is a buncha pricks and wouldn’t give the Fantastic Four back, we’d just have to come up with a different line up for the Illuminati, nbd.)
Hulk Movie 2 – PLANET HULK. One of the best Hulk stories of all time. If you’re unfamiliar with this story, seriously go pick up the graphic novel. Nuff said.
Avengers 3 – World War Hulk! Hulk returns with Banner’s intelligence and a serious chip on his big green shoulder, and promptly proceeds to kick everyone’s ass until The Sentry shows up and fights him to draw (sort of). After a secret is revealed that pisses the Hulk off again, the draw is concluded by Nick Fury firing some satellites at him and draining off the gamma energy. Energy, that we later find out is used to create the Red Hulk (no of course they didn’t learn their lesson with the Abomination).
Hulk Movie 3 – Hulk vs Red Hulk. Red Hulk is every bit as strong as the Hulk and twice as ruthless so this is gonna get epic. Big. Badda. Boom. And the way I’d end it is Skaar shows up (Hulks son he made on Planet Hulk) and they have it out, reconcile and team up to take down Red Hulk.
The end.
How’d I do?
.
I’ll second that gif.
eh, needs more Leader.
j/k – WWH would totally rock
I’ve had Planet Hulk on my reading list for way too long. Time to bump that up.
The Surly Badger has interesting ideas, Marvel did those in the comics. My vote would be to bring in Red Hulk sooner.
Thank you sir, I am a Hulk fan and most of that came from my favorite Hulk story lines. Red Hulk would have to come last as per the continuity though. But the thought of Skaar showing up and going on a rampage looking for Hulk, breaking him out of the SHIELD facility so he can fight him, father and son working their shit out and then teaming up to fight the big bad, that whole thing tickles me something fierce and I would effing love to see that on the big screen. And IMHO would make for the best closure in Hulk’s story. How about a final shot of Banner and Skaar walking away from the camera set to the music from the old tv show?
Marvel putting Hulk on the back burner is a big mistake since he was absolutely the best part of the Avengers. Its not like they’re lacking for good stories to tell, as I have hopefully pointed out.
Red Hulk would scare me, only because it took so long for them to perfect one Hulk.
They got it right with the Ruffalo Hulk, I dont think shading him red would be too difficult.
