One of the nice things about the Star Trek franchise, is that they’re not overly anal about defending their copyrights — for instance, Trek producers looked the other way when fans and Tim Russ (the guy who played Tuvok) put together Star Trek: Of Gods and Men a few years back. Also, there was that whole Star Trek: Phase II thing. Basically if you can wrangle a few former Star Trek actors to appear in your fan film, the guardians of the Trek franchise will throw their hands up and be all “eh, f–k it, have fun guys.”
Well, Tuvok and pals are at it again with Star Trek: Renegades, a new web series they promise won’t be “your grandfather’s Star Trek” despite starring the very grandfatherly Walter Koenig as Chekov. Hit the jump for the first teaser trailer for Star Trek: Renegades…
Not blown away by the superstar teaming of Tuvok and Chekov? The series will also star Garrett Wang (aka Harry Kim) and uh, you know Tom Paris? The super boring guy from Voyager? The guy who played his dad will also be in this thing. Hoo boy.

Funny, I thought my grandfather’s Star Trek was the best kind.
Voyager is only not the least hated series because of Enterprise. I assure you however, Voyager was like pasta with poop sauce.

I’ll only watch this if Harry Kim makes out with a farm animal or a dead woman every few episodes. Also, since this seems to nothing but a Voyager spin-off, BRING BACK KES! Because that would be hilarious.
No, they need to kill Harry Kim and replace him with a deus ex machina duplicate at the end of every episode, like Kenny from South Park but with Treknobabble.
“Oh my God, the Gorn killed Harry! No, wait. Temporal duplicate.”
“Harry sacrificed himself to save the 1920s Chicago Gangster Planet! Oh wait, that plant we picked up in the first act regrew an exact clone with all his memories.”
