The first real Resident Evil 6 reviews are coming out today (magazine reviews based on pre-release gameplay are useless and don’t count) and things aren’t looking pretty.
GameSpot has dropped a 4.5, Destructoid a 3.0 and IGN has given the game the worst possible score IGN can give — the dreaded 7.9. The consensus seems to be that the game is far too scattered and doesn’t let players actually, you know, play the game, jerking control away constantly for cheesy, scripted, quick-time laden set pieces.
This is a shame, because a) I’m a big fan of the series and b) Capcom recently made a really good Resident Evil on the 3DS — Resident Evil: Revelations. It really felt like Capcom had got the series back on the right track, but it seems as though the team working on RE6 decided to head down a completely different track. One heading off a cliff. Into a volcano.
Dan will have his Resident Evil 6 impressions up tomorrow and if you’re hoping he’ll be a defiant voice of RE6 positivity, well uh…keep hoping?
Hmmm, wonder how many dump trucks full of money Capcom is going have to drive over to Platinum Games to convince them to fix this series now?

I almost feel like I should thank them for saving me the money between Borderlands 2 and Halo 4.
Dishonored will be collecting that cash.
I love the Resident Evil series, and I actually hope this one sinks the franchise, at least for a while. Maybe then it can go dormant for a while, or they’ll just remake RE2.
I don’t know if I’m wishing for the franchise to be sunk, but Resident Evil 5 doing so well was the worst possible thing that could have happened to the series.
Hopefully it’s at least a disappointment that forces them to re-evaluate some s–t.
word. couldn’t believe how bad re5 was. When I saw a game about wesker’s son chasing ada wong, I knew that the story wasn’t fixed and figured it was safe to assume the gameplay wouldn’t be either.
I actually liked RE5 because it was one of the few games that had local co-op and the bf and I played it nonstop for a while. I’ve been dying for them to remake RE2 for the longest time. That one is definitely still my favorite, by far.
I hope RE gets killed off so they can head back to the drawing board, it needs it and it’s for the best. Then Capcom can focus on making Dragon’s Dogma 2 extra super duper awesome.
Was never interested in RE6, but I always cringe when classic series like this tank. Can you imagine the day when this happens to something like GTA?

Heh. I am joking, mostly, but there were definitely moments in that game that were decidedly not fun and just a terrible idea.
This is a real save, cause you know, we weren’t all burned on RE5. Glad to see they’re willing to kill what little fans they had left. Welp- better make another movie then!
