As part of our ongoing series of Arrow liveblogs, we’d like to remind you that in the comments tonight, we’ll be seeing The CW’s version of Heat with superheroes. Or at least archers.
Last episode was fairly heavy on the flashbacks and fairly light on the whining, which is always a plus and a trend that we hope continues.
We’ll be curious to see what riffs they have on the gang, which are perpetual back-benchers in the actual DCU. It’d be particularly interesting if they ran with the interpretation of the group as essentially a Mafia based around playing cards, with those involved just being an example of the gang.
It is fairly safe to say that the super-strong robot, the illusion scepter and other stuff won’t be playing a role: These guys are strictly the automatic weapons types.
We’ll be here at 8pm EST, so come on down and help us curse Thea’s whininess and root for the show to become a buddy comedy about Ollie and Diggle beating ass.

Every time they do a flashback to the island I hear the old Super Friends announcer in my head saying, “Meanwhile, in the past…”
Heh, they might as well.
Aaaaaand we’re back.
Now this is how you start an episode.
Good job, lady.
I’m counting how many movies they’ve cribbed from in the first two minutes and I’m up to five.
Stephen Amell must have a contractual obligation to be shirtless.
Heh, Royal Flush Gang starts in Keystone. Nice touch.
He looks a bit too much like Adam Scott in this shot.
OH SHIT LAW AND ORDER GUY IS BACK!
They are trying to cram every single possible DC city into this episode.
Not to mention Stagg Industries, which gives me hope that we’ll see Simon Stagg at some point… and then METAMORPHO somehow. And Coast City mention makes me think of Green Lantern, which I thought they didn’t want people to think about (in regards to the title change to “Arrow” instead of “Green Arrow”).
Metamorpho is unlikely: They’re pretty explicit about keeping this “real” in terms of powers. But it is a nice shout-out.
Does Laurel ever NOT talk in exposition?
Moira is actually getting better and better as a character.
Wow, getting hit on by your best friend’s sister is NOT awkward at all.
When did this become a crappy romantic comedy?!
Diggle turns the tables!
Lay it on thick, Digs. Laaaaaaay it on thick.
“Let’s catch some bank robbers, so you’ll stop being such a BUZZKILL.”
Holy shit almost missed this. Did i miss much?
A pretty good knock off of Heat and Diggle laying a major guilt trip on Ollie. Also a HI-LARIOUS misunderstanding between Thea and Tommy.
What are the odds that Ollie’s friend in town is in the Royal Flush Gang? At least they didn’t give him the name Jack Spade.
I would put those odds at 1:1.
OK, I will give them credit for not going with the stupid “ENHANCE” button on a surveillance video.
Breaking into a police station never looked so easy.
Starling City cops are not quite the best ever.
Arrow must be beloved by the city’s remodelling companies. Especially the spacklers.
No, you do not listen to your best friend when she suggests you put out for charity. THIS IS A BAD IDEA.
ACE VENTURA SCIENCE!
Still better than CSI “science”.
Interesting idea with the Royal Flush Gang, actually.
Oh, God, Ollie, beat this guy senseless.
I would loooove to see him beat that smug face in. Doubly so after saying the title of his book.
I hope Kevin The Robot is right and he’s the Bastard of the Week.
What’s with the non-fatal shots?
The bank robbers should invest in some gloves, but it doesnt seem like anyones checking for prints anyway.
Starling City PD: The Best We Can Get For What We’re Willing To Pay!
In all seriousness, I’m assuming there’s something more to this than just “Hey, Dad, let’s start robbing banks!”
I guess Laurel’s dad isn’t on the show this week. I kinda wish they would kill him off. Curtis from 24 is way better. Even if I learn his character’s name I will continue to call him Curtis from 24.
I actually like Quentin, partially because he’s Harry Dresden.
It’s odd, Blackthorne was mentioned in the credits.
He’s a regular cast member, so he gets credit even if he doesn’t appear.
I miss the Dresden Files show.
The “local” vigilante? Interesting.
Smallville isn’t on the air anymore right?
Nope. And it’s not in this series continuity anyway.
“Just one last score.” Because that ALWAYS goes so well!
THEY TOOK OUR JOBS!!!!!
Crap dude. They really did.
Hey, Diggle, familiar with the term “total backfire?”
If Tommy admits he’s impotent, I’m out.
Did he really just tell Laurel he has had sex with every woman in Starling City? That’s your move?!
I love how he was going for sympathy by telling her he forgets how many girls hes had sex with.
“I’ve screwed my way through the city. And you’re the best!”
You know those whores I love to bang, well I almost accidentally banged one of them twice and it made me miss how you’d cook me breakfast after we banged and I really liked it.
Ollie must have bought a full guilt trip package.
Ollie, just call the cops, for God’s sake.
I have a feeling this is going to end tragically.
I have a feeling it ends with Doctor Douche getting shot. And that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.
Im going to stand up and do a slow clap if that happens.
Ollie: “We take them down. I’ve never beaten and killed an entire family before!”
Hey, I have this crazy idea: They’re going to hold up the benefit!
I was about to say this fund raiser really came together fast but they had to work extra hard to have it set up for the robbery.
Yes, Thea, there are other women in the universe!
Does everybody in the Queen family have an alcoholism problem?
Is she really laying a guilt trip on him for ditching a lunch?!
Im telling you man Lucile Bluth
Ollie should just hit everybody trying to guilt trip him. Bitch-slappin’ Ollie.
I was hoping for more flashbacks with sensie this episode.
Yeah, I miss Sensei.
That bank looks like an airport.
So, wait, you hold off until NOW to rob the bank the SMART way?!
That Nikita episode sounds alot like the premise of that horrible Hitman movie
To be fair, that horrible Hitman movie had the plot of just about every crappy action movie starring an assassin ever.
The shield is a nice touch.
What do you care that he’s bleeding out? YOU KILL PEOPLE ALL THE TIME.
GOD DAMN THEY JUST DO NOT STOP WITH THE GUILT TRIPS!
Seriously! Even his dead father is guilt-tripping him!
His dads a total dick, “HEY! I was a total dick in my life so you gotta make it right OK?!?!”
Really, if you wanted that, you should have shot him, Law and Order Guy.
Hey, I didn’t know John Constantine was in Supernatural.
Have you watched that show before? it looks…..uh…interesting
I’ve seen a few episodes. Honestly I’d want to get caught up before watching anything on the air.
Thea really likes to get drunk and be a bitch. This is, what, the third episode she’s done this?
Why would Tommy think you were attracted to the handsome doctor with the TV show? GEE, LAUREL, I DON’T KNOW.
Diggle, finally without the guilt trip.
He’s Good Will Hunting him.
Come on, Arrow, make with Sensei!
So glad Ollie finally twigged to what was obvious from episode one about that book.
“I thought it would help me, my husband has figured out I’m evil.”
“I used to know what you were thinking.” TITS TITS TITS BOOZE TITS BANG MY GIRLFRIEND’S SISTER BOOZE.
Big Belly Burger seems to have decent food.
“That is a TASTY burger!”
Kinda disappointed in this episode to some degree, but pretty good overall.
Huntress!
Next one looks good, action packed with family drama
It does. This episode wasn’t BAD, it just never cohered into a full plot. Like, Ollie was basically a guest star in a half hour episode of Gossip Girl and then ducked back into his own show.
It was a solid episode. Could of used more action. I give them a lot of credit for not making the Doctor part of the gang. It looks like in addition to playing the role of Robin, Diggle can also be Jim Gordon when he needs to be.
Yeah, it was nice they avoided the obvious and just made him a jackass. But the result was really a split episode, as I noted above. Looking forward to the Huntress arc, though, which this episode seems to have been setting up.
Just finished it. Have to say, I concur whole-heartedly with the comments. The guilt trip thing was unbelievable. Also, pretty sure that every single person that Ollie knew in his former life was at least a 9 on the douchebag scale. And if the writers wrote the episode trying to get us to feel bad for Tommy, they failed on an epic scale.
I feel a little bad for Tommy, who is at least trying. Thea I don’t REMOTELY feel bad for, however.
Waaaaait, I watched this hammered as shit about 10 minutes ago. Totally missed anything related to Huntress.. what’s up?
She starts showing up when new episodes resume after Thanksgiving.
Calling his sister speedy, foreshadows a lot. Not sure if she will be Speedy or Arsenal or Red Arrow. Either way its an interesting foreshadow
It is. But Thea is going to have to have some Longbow Hunters grade s*** happen to her to snap her out of her “It’s All About MEEEEEEE!” attitude.
True, She is kinda a drug hoe
I also see his best friend becoming Merlyn. Not sure if that’s how its spellt in show, but he is also an amazing archer in comics :S Oliver needs to watch out, he wants his gyal already
I’m gonna probably sit down and watch episodes 2-6 in a row this weekend. I’ve clearly missed a lot.
