The second Star Trek movie has been fairly vague about what it’s going to be, aside from the fact that the title will lack the colon it is so desperately crying for. But now, it has an official synopsis!
Which is still really vague!
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
Despite the attempts to keep the villain secret for some bizarre reason, like this thing isn’t going to have a trailer that dumps the whole plot on us anyway around Christmas, it has been leaked that the villain is Gary Mitchell and this would seem to confirm that Mitchell will be the bad guy, unless they’re going Squire of Gothos on us.
We’ll keep an eye out for the official trailer: While there’s no word of one just yet, it’s likely it’ll be in front of Jack Reacher, Paramount’s big holiday action extravaganza.

I read an interesting theory that Cumberbatch and Robocop would be playing Gary Seven (past and present) and that the whole story line would be a take off of Assignment Earth, but after re-watching “Where No Man Has Gone Before” I think that Gary Mitchell wold be a more interesting villain.
I always wondered why nothing was ever done with Assignment: Earth. Not even a comic?
In the Start Trek Novels I think Gary Seven had something to do with Khan and the Eugenics War also I think they may have done a one off comic at some point.
Yeah if I remember correctly in a few novels Gary Seven tried to make Khan his apprentice, when that didn’t work he had move against him to avoid WWIII. I think the whole series was a way of trying to explain how the Eugenics Wars were actually a “secret war” that most of humanity didn’t know about.
Then he conked Khan on the noggin and shot him into space.
The trailer will be around Jack Reacher.

Yeah, I wanted to make a joke about it being the most entertaining thing in theaters when Jack Reacher comes out, too.

Kirk, you underestimate the power of a level 1 diagnostic
This might sound stupid what with all the speculating going on and such, but couldn’t the bad guy be James Kirk’s brother from the very beginning of Star Trek 2009? The synopsis mentions “personal score” and “only family left.” It seems to fit if you ask me.
