Here’s something I bet you didn’t know — they’re making a Jumanji remake! No, I’m not talking about the countless board game movies in the works with plots exactly like it, I’m talking about a legit, honest to goodness, Jumanji remake.
This new Jumanji recently scored a writer — Zach Helm, a guy who specializes in twee magical tales like Will Farrell’s Stranger Than Fiction and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. Sounds like the right kind of guy for the job.
One person not attached to the remake? Robin Williams, so this movie has a shot at being the rare remake that’s better than the original. That’s right, Jumanji sucked. I will not stand by as the Internet tries to give it the ’90s nostalgia whitewash. I’ll stand behind everything from Twister to The Mummy, but not Jumanji. Never Jumanji.

I actually just watched Jumanji a month or two ago to see if it still held up. It did! I simply do not understand your hatred for Jamanji and Robin Williams. The man gave us Hook and What Dreams May Come!
“The man gave us Hook…”
Well, there’s your problem.
Hook is awesomesauce.
And Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin, Patch Adams and Good Will Hunting (well… he didn’t “give” us them, but was in them and was great in them) but either way, Jumanji is okay at best. It’s a very 90s movie but the plot behind it has a lot of potential to be a pretty awesome movie, especially if Zach Helm is writing it. Nab a visual effects drama director and you’re good to go. Make it a silly kid’s movie and it’ll at least be par for the course as far as remakes are concerned.
This just in: Andy Serkis found cackling at the thought of playing every animal in the Jumanjji remake.
Robin WIlliams is one of the most annoying people on this planet.
This should turn out great because the Judge Dredd reboot worked out fabulously.
Twister? Really?
Jumanji was the first movie I went to see by myself. I went at a weird show time and I was the only one in the theater. And still I booed.
I can’t shit on Robin Williams. He’s not for everyone but I can appreciate most everything he does (with the exception of his talk show appearances – I’m not fucking insane).
His dramatic work is much better than his comedy stuff, much better.
Buzzfeed just had a collective orgasm.
Your mom sucked in the 90′s.
Sorry you have Williams phobia, but he plays it pretty straight in that movie. I don’t see what they can do to improve it.
As far as board game movies go, Zathura was better. And it wasn’t even that good, it has bella and peeta and crosby, though.
Ho hum. Another self-appointed Internet “expert” who demonstrates pseudo-hipness by hating things that are completely innocuous. “I’m cool because I hate things!” Did Robin Williams kill your gramma? Why the venom?
Was it the greatest movie ever made? Probably not. Is it entertaining. As much as any other movie of its kind, i.e., children’s adventure movies. No need for a remake, though.
