So, the Spike VGAs were this weekend. Ehn, yeah I know. I mean, Telltale’s The Walking Dead games taking home the most awards was surprising, but still, meh. There was one genuinely exciting thing on the show though — a new trailer for Sony’s The Last of Us. This game looks really really good guys. Like, damn.
Hit the jump for he trailer — with swear words unbleeped and everything since this is the Internet…
Oh, and here’s the game’s box art…
Hey look, they actually put the female main character on the box art — more prominently than the grizzled dude protagonist no less! That means the game will probably sell like crap, but hey, score one for artistic integrity.

I’m on episode 3 of the Walking Dead, and I don’t understand the love this game gets. The voice acting doesn’t blow me away. and the animation is terrible. I understand wanting to go for a stylized comic book look, hell, I support it, but the game is so choppy and glitchy that I no longer really care about what happens in it. It’s such an overly simplistic game, how did they mess that up? The action is mainly choosing one of four buttons to pick and talking to people, it gets pretty boring. The biggest drawback for me is the choppiness though.
I’m still waiting for a zombie game to get things right. Open world games like Dead Island are often slow and boring, Left 4 Dead has no story and the gameplay gets a little boring after a few hours. Resident Evil 4 was the last great game in the series.
I know this game isnt exactly Zombies, but I hope it’s finally the style of game I’ve been looking for.
Does anyone have any good zombie game reccomendations?
The animation doesn’t look that great because they are still using the TellTale engine. It’s not a pretty engine but it works well. I was actually happy to see it used since I didn’t know of any other games that had used it since the Sam & Max ones.
The issue you’re probably running into is that The Walking Dead as well as this game aren’t really zombie centric. The Walking Dead, (whether it be the comics, the game, or the show) is more about the characters and their interactions than it is about the zombies or survival. If you’re not looking for character centric drama then anything Walking Dead related probably won’t be your thing.
I downloaded the first two episodes when they were up for free download for PSN+ members a couple of months ago. I played like half an hour and haven’t gone back to it. Didn’t really grab me in the beginning. I’ll probably check it out when I have nothing else to play just to see how the story unfolds. And Crash is right, zombies have never really been the focus of The Walking Dead. At most, they were just the catalyst that threw all these people together. The focus has always been about the lengths that these people will go to survive in this new world and how they react to and interact with each other.
My favorite zombie game is Dead Pixels on XBLA Indie.
I was chopping onions at the end of the series, for sure. great ending.
I’ve been reading the Walking Dead monthly since it debuted, I know that zombies aren’t the focus, and that’s not my problem with the game. The game is essentially a movie version of those choose your own adventure books, when I watch a movie I expect it to look nice and not freeze up midway through the action. When I’m playing the game voices frequently don’t match up to the action, and the characters all glitch up like crazy during cut scenes, which make up the majority of the game. I also don’t find the story all that compelling to begin with, it seems fairly run of the mill, but I’m also only half way through it and it’s possible that there are some better developments coming. What’s worst is that I accidentally saved Duck at the beginning of the game, and am really living to regret that choice.
There should be a game that combines the attempt at story in the Walking Dead with the action of Left 4 Dead, or even The Infected mode from MW3 (for online). I’m really hoping that the next Grand Theft Auto incorporates a zombie mode into their multiplayer, since they’re really trying to make the online play incredible.
Im very excited for this game. It looks amazing with hopefully a strong story. The only thing im curious about is the multiplayer. I just saw they announced the pre-order specials and its all multiplayer xp bonuses and skins and stuff. I’m really curious as to what modes the mp will be.
Goddamnit, Scully!
I want this game inside of me. Naughty Dog has been absolutely amazing this console generation. They’ve been making solid games since the PS1 days, but I really thought they knocked it out of the park with the Uncharted games. Granted, the second one was definitely the highlight of the series, but all three were some of the most entertaining and satisfying gaming experience I’ve ever had in my life.
I have a weird Ellen Paige type boner now. Game looks sweet too.
this game looks so damn good. ugh. I want it inside of me right now.
