Recently, we posted a red band teaser for the remake of Evil Dead being produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell (who may have a cameo role) and directed by Fede Alvarez (Panic Attack!). Now we have a full-length red band trailer that is somehow even more violent than the teaser was. They didn’t listen to our suggestion to cast Gary Busey as the female lead, but it seems to have turned out all right nonetheless.
Many of the familiar aspects are there. Even the Angry Molesting Tree has returned. Alvarez told io9 that the raping tree will be “way more terrible than the original.” Nonetheless, expect some people to complain that the raping tree could be even rapier. Back away slowly from those people.
Part of what really works in this trailer is the complete lack of CGI. Director Fede Alvarez explains:
There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear. [io9]
Best way to make an arm disappear? Beat a wookiee at chess.
On a more personal note, I watched this horrific trailer right before having to give myself an injection, which was a really bad idea. Word of advice: don’t watch this before doing anything medically invasive. Just as I was about to poke myself, my cat made a noise and I almost jumped out a window. Damn you, Evil Dead red band trailer.
Evil Dead opens on April 12th. I jump out a window April 13th.

“Feh, the redband teaser probably had all the gore, this trailer is probably just the same footage re-ediOH GOD! OH JESUS CHRIST!”
Normally girls making out is sexy………. and this is no exception
Yes! I’m loving this!
way to raise the bar sam raimi….well played.
I hope that kissing scene was written just so the Deadite can break into Bruces’ voice and say “Gimme some sugar, baby”
If that line doesn’t appear, I’ll be shocked.
Fun fact, if you watch this movie and Antichrist on the same day, you will kill yourself.
You mean the Lars Von Trier movie? The one where the Green Goblin has a stand-in for the sex scene because apparently nobody would believe that was actually his dong anyway?
Yup the one with the worst handjob ever captured on film.
GAH! Thanks for the reminder. I actually think Antichrist, once you scrape off the pointless crap like the opening porn scene, is an effective horror movie about how love can blind you.
Antichrist also has two fairly straightforward messages: “Women be evil” and CHAOS REIGNS.
Yeah, I think the whole “bitches be sucking my precious bodily fluids” “theme” didn’t actually come across, but he was trying really hard. Generally if you want to generalize about a group, it helps to have more than one woman in the movie.
It was definitely the most horrifying movie I’ve ever seen. It was also really boring,..maybe that made the insanity even worse.
Oh and it also helps to have a woman who isn’t disgusting. Of course that might not have made the scissors scene any better…but maybe.
You tried to warn me Uproxx… now I need a palate cleanser. D: I love the original, but I know I’m going to need to curl into a ball in the corner and watch some unicorns farting rainbows or something after I see this. This will be an interesting one to see in the theatres
This film will shake your brain like a dump truck on a dirt road.
licking the fucking knife IT’S BURNED INTO MY RETINAS!!!
this is probably the scariest *trailer* I’ve ever seen. holy. shite.
I are confusel. I thought Suburgatory girl was supposed to be the new star, a female Ash, which I was fine with since she is a less odd looking version of Emma Stone. But this makes her look like Cheryl from the original, being tree raped and then becoming a deadite in the cellar.
Rami and Campbell have said she’s the star, but they went out of their way to not have a character analogous (did I use that right?) to Ash.
You did.
Evil Dead: The Suburgatory Cut
Best trailer I’ve seen in a long, long time.
One of the first horror movies I am excited to see in a long ass time. I cant freaking wait!
Holy shit. I have to go watch some cartoons now.
I’ve always had mixed feelings on the original, really didn’t see what made it stand out from other 80′s movies, and its so different in tone from its sequels.
This looks like a whole nother direction. “Saw” level mutilations makes me wonder if it runs the risk of just overdoing itself.guess it’ll just have to wait and see
