Steven Spielberg Cancels The 'Robopocalypse'

Robopocalypse was set to start filming this month, with Anne Hathaway signed on to star and Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw in talks as well. Steven Spielberg delayed that start date to focus on Lincoln, and now THR says Robopocalypse has been “postponed for an indefinite time.” Spokesman Marvin Levy cited the high expense of the production and the script from Cabin in the Woods‘ Drew Goddard being unfinished as the reasons for the postponement.

Some in the industry wondered whether Spielberg would want to pursue Robopocalypse after the director’s 60 Minutes interview that aired Oct. 21, during which he said he could do an action film “in my sleep at this point in my career,” adding, “it doesn’t attract me anymore.” [THR]

So we might not get to watch Catwoman, Thor, and Q from Skyfall fighting the robot apocalypse. Meanwhile, the other Daniel H. Wilson robot apocalypse novel, How To Survive A Robot Uprising, is still in development with Jack Black attached to star. Uh, great?
