Recently we reported that Warner Bros. was snapping up all sorts of domain names containing the words “Batman” and “Arkham”. Most took this as evidence that a sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City was on the way. Probably a good bet, but wouldn’t such a major game have already been announced? It seemed like we were going to be waiting for the next Arkham game for a while.
Or maybe not! Time Warner’s chief financial officer John K. Martin let this slip at a recent investors call…
“And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise.”
So, more gargoyle hanging goodness on the way in 2013! I guess I don’t have as much time to collect all those damn Arkham City Riddler trophies as I thought.

Now if only we can confirm inFamous 3…
um, awesome?
question: (FUCKING SPOILER – BUT IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED THROUGH ARKHAM CITY SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH YOU) – how do they get past the fact that Joker is no more? are they just not going to use him anymore? in which case, well that blows, because it’s a fucking Batman game and you need the Joker. especially when he’s played as brilliantly as Mark Hamill.
Hamill said that Arkham City was the last time he would play the Joker
yes and then they asked him to clarify, and he said of course he would come back to reprise the role if he was asked.
Ah I see. Well hopefully he does come back
Spoiler — Joker’s not dead because he’s the Joker.
Also, Batman sometimes fights guys other than the Joker.
There are also rumors of the next game being during Batman’s first encounters with the Joker. On the other hand, the Joker that died may just have been clayface again.
Then again there’s always Scarecrow [whose Easter Egg in Arkham City is quite a motherload of Easter Eggs].
Adding to Figfire’s comment rumors were that it would be a Silver Age style prequel about the first time Batman faced Joker, and since it’s silver age there would be lots of opportunity for team ups with other super heros.
I’d like to see something not as “open world” instead each Villain and their themed “dungeon” are presented episodically at different points in Batman’s early career all showing how each baddie ended up at Arkham for the first time. I’d imagine they’ll be some over-arching plot to tie it all together.
Not to slam on the brakes but is this still being developed by Rocksteady? And IF it’s coming out for the next gen consoles, what iteration of Unreal will it be running on?
I’ve heard Rocksteady isn’t involved in this. As far as next gen consoles, my guess is that WB isn’t going to release it strictly for PS4 and company (too much money to lose), which means that it will most likely be built around the current generation of consoles.
So, the game could be awesome if you’ve got an Xbox 360, but not up to the standards someone might expect for its predecessor.
If it’s 2013 it’s probably a current gen game — maybe with an somewhat prettied up “next gen” version. We’re going to be seeing a lot of that for the first year or two of Xbox 720/PS4.
All rumors/indications seem to point to Rocksteady not beinginvolved so wait a bit and see what it looks till your pantys get all up in a wet bundled mess (that’s what I keep telling myself atleast)
Well, even if Rocksteady isn’t involved, they’ve laid down some pretty solid foundations — it would actually be kind of hard to make a bad “Arkham” game at this point.
Batman: Arkham County
Batman: Arkham State
Batman: Arkham Country
Batman: Arkham Continent
Batman: Arkham World
I would play all these games. Assuming they continued with solid plots
I’m holding out for Batman: Arkham Isthmus.
Batman: Arkham Archipelago
Batman: Arkham Pangea
