Frank Miller used to be one of the most respected names in comics. That’s kind of taken a slide over the last ten years or so, and apparently he’s been reduced to directing Skinemax-style short fi… wait, this is a perfume ad? Somebody actually paid for this?!
Here’s Miller’s latest ad, for Gucci Guilty Black. If you’re pressed for time, it’s basically Captain America having sex with Evan Rachel Wood. In fact, we’re pretty sure that was Miller’s ad pitch:
It’s a variation of a theme, considering this is actually the second Gucci ad Frank directed, which is also about Captain America having sex with Evan Rachel Wood, but with more tire fires:
Amazingly, this is actually not creepy in the sense that there’s only about a six-year difference in age between the two of them. That said, it’s a little hard not to wonder if Chris Evans is standing in for a certain Mr. Frank Miller.
Still, it is kind of depressing that Miller has gone from respected comics professional to… well, actually, Gucci probably wrote him a fat check to make these two ad spots, so it’s hard to blame the guy for going after the money, we guess, especially since after The Spirit bombed. That said, we’re kind of hoping this doesn’t reflect the creative direction of the Sin City franchise.

Frank Miller has become that kid that really likes anime eyes and draws them on everything. Alright you like the way Rodriguez directed Sin City, we got it!!
Yeah, he probably got paid more for doing these two ads than most of his classic comics work combined.
These weren’t terrible — they had some style and momentum, and it looks like the Sin City technology has advanced a bit. The movie’s still going to be nutso though (in a good or bad way, I’m not sure).
Yeah, heavens forbid that the next Sin City movie should include pretty people driving cool cars and having sex w/ each other. That would be the worst.
Those commercials are actually a whole lot funnier if you picture Chris Evans being his Lucas Lee character from “Scott Pilgrim.”
After the shoot, I bet he went and got ‘blazed in his Winnie…’
That’s actually hilarious.
frank Miller’s comic work has been pretty awful for a while now but I don’t think these ads are so terrible I mean they seem like the standard thing for fashion type ads.I also wouldn’t say that he’s stealing Rodriguiez’s style if anything the style that RR used to shoot sin city was basiclly what Miller created anyway (since Sin city was basiclly panel for panel) so I’d say that’s just his style of doing things. But what do I know I liked the spirit thought it was funny
also I’d like to eat Rachel Evan wood’s butt
I like to think of Chris Evans less as Captain America and more as The Human Torch.
Yeah, it took me a while to get past that one.
