So, how far along are you on your Assassin’s Creed III sidequests? Well, you better get going on them, because Assassin’s Creed IV is, apparently, right around the corner. Oh, and it’s about pirates!
Rumors of a grog-soaked Assassin’s Creed have been floating around the Internet high seas for a while, and now they seem to have been confirmed by the leak of a promotional poster for Assassin’s Creed IV. You can check out the poster for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag after the jump…
Thanks for the super-clear photography guys.
Well, seems legit to me. According to Ubisoft’s CEO the next Assassin’s Creed game will be coming out in 2013. Not sure if I’m ready for more Assassin’s Creed so soon, but hey, we all liked the Assassin’s Creed III naval battles, right? Hopefully Assassin’s Creed IV feels like a full game and not just a “More Naval Battles!” expansion pack.

Cool cool cool. The naval stuff was my favorite part of AC3, and honestly if they did put out a naval expansion for AC3 I would actually be first in line. Yarp.
Yeah, they’re a lot of fun, even if I am completely terrible at them. Hopefully they expand them in some interesting ways — new weapons and tactics and so on.
Whatever replay value that game has is in two mechanics:
1. Animal Petting Simulator 2012
2. Naval Battles
I liked the different cannon loads, my shit-head tactics consisted of ramming them and then using chain shot to immobilize and then cruise around my victim in circles setting them on fire with flame shot. It’s a pirate’s life for me.
Ideally for me would be if the seas were more open world. You could board your ship whenever you want, take it to different islands for missions, have random battles in the open sea, etc. Basically take the normal open world mechanics they have for all the land stuff, but put it on the open seas.
@Saosin
I could not possibly agree more. An open-world Pirate game would be the proverbial tittays.
Some thoughts on that:
*Randomized enemy ships/ fleets…
*Randomized and scripted Storm/Weather system…
*A notoriety system that sics the Spanish Armada on you if you get too big…
*RPG elements of upgrading your ship and personal fleet…
*If you disable/deal enough damage to a ship you can board it and go hand to hand on the decks and you get a bigger Booty Bonus for capping their cargo etc…
Crap… now I really really want this to exist.
@Surly Badger
We’re totally thinking the same thing. Honestly, it shouldn’t be impossible for them to do that. All the systems/infrastructure from AC3 should allow them to implement what you listed pretty easily and quickly.
If they do that, then balance out the naval battles and on-land missions, they could have a really fun game on their hands.
So basically you guys want Sid Meier’s Pirates!…..redone on the AC3 engine. Yeah I’d be down with that.
Exactly, now thats a game that needs a decent triple A reboot. Microsoft just made a little mobile version so I think they have the rights. This would be seriously epic on the next gen systems, especially since they’ll all be rocking blu-ray.
jeez that was fast. maybe less expansion games is the way to go. just do 4, 5 and 6 annually.
Yeah, I guess that’s what they’re going for. I would have expected this “Black Flag” game would have been a AC3 DLC for after the Washington episodes or if it was going to be a full fledged game, it would be like AC: Brotherhood. Not actually moving onto the next numbered game.
I think they just wanted to get one more use out of the Assassin’s Creed III engine before the “next gen” turnover, and so it was now or never. I bet Assassin’s Creed V doesn’t come so quickly.
Looks like it’s still Ratatoullie as the hero, so not really anything new?
From what I read, the hero is Edward Kenway. Haytham’s father/Ratatoullie’s Grandfather.
My only doubt with the realness of this is the striking resemblance to Connor that the guy has. A Brotherhood-like new game maybe? That said, bring on Pirate’s Creed, those naval battles were pretty damn cool
There was a rumor you play as Nathan Haytham’s, I think that’s his name, dad so you would be Connors grand father which would lead to the familiarity.

i hated the naval battles. i’m a history nerd, so the coolest part about ac for me has been them putting real people in their game with their basic backstory and then expanding upon that. ac just feels like it’s run its course unfortunately. the 1st one was great, obviously. brotherhood was good and i thought revelations just stunk, and not only because of the battles you had to command. i liked the newest one they’ve put out, but i honestly felt like the present day desmond story was more interesting then anything that was going on with connor.
I also hated the naval battles. The learning curve of trying to drive that damn ship was fucking crazy… it slowed the whole thing down. The only thing worse was having to run around the wilderness forever like I was in a goddamn RPG… guh NOOOOO
The history porn has always been this series’ strong suit, sorry you guys didnt dig the naval missions, once I got the hang of the ship it became my favorite part next to historical Boston. It’s probably the nicest Southie has ever looked.
