Pretty much every time I try to talk about RPGs around here, I’m hit with multiple “WHY AREN’T YOU TALKING ABOUT SHADOWRUN RETURNS” comments, so well, here I am talking about Shadowrun Returns! Are you happy now?
Jordan Weisman, one of the creators of the original Shadowrun tabletop game, is developing Shadowrun Returns, which was a success on Kickstarter to the tune of around 1.8 million dollars. The game has taken the form of a strategy/tactical RPG and will, in a crazy little bit of continuity, actually tie into the Shadowrun games released nearly 20-years-ago on the SNES and Genesis.

Looking pretty slick for a crowdfunded indie. I really like how the game shifts seamlessly from traditional “walk around town talking to people” RPG stuff, to tactical battles. I’ll admit, I never played the well-liked 16-bit Shadowrun games, but I may have to give this one a try.

Woohoo! And they’re going to have a live demo at SXSW on Sunday too. I seriously can’t wait for this game. Everything in that video can be rebuilt in the custom mission editor btw. X Com was brilliant and the combat in this is going to be remarkably similar. Also, that game music bring back any memories? They brought back both guys from the Genesis and SNES games to collaborate on it.
And yes I am so wickedly happy right now.
::dances jig, pushes EA exec into oncoming train::
Can. Not. Wait. Shadowrun is the most underserved pnp RPG title by far. Also, welcome back, good turn based games.
I have high hopes for the mmo as well. If you didnt back it you can still get some sweet swag on pre order.
Ugh, turn based….I wish Bethesda could get a hold of the franchise.
Literally all of the great RPGs were turn based. Fallout 1&2, Baldurs Gate, Planescape. I would have it no other way. NWN did a decent job of faux turns, I guess, and it was necessary for multiplayer, but you important strategy elements when every action takes exactly the same amount of time.
