I’ve made no secret of my love of Scott Snyder’s and Greg Capullo’s work on Batman. So far they’ve knocked the big yearlong crossover and the inevitable Joker story out of the park, so what’s next? It’s time for a Year One story of course! Or, to be more accurate, a Year Zero story.
DC has confirmed several times that Batman: Year One remains cannon in the New 52 universe, so Batman: Zero Year will presumably take place before the events of Year One. Considering Year One’s story begins before Bruce Wayne even creates the Batman persona, it’ll be interesting to see how Snyder manages to fit Batman into Zero Year at all. I suspect it will be a mix of current day adventures and flashbacks.
The only thing I’m worried about is Batman: Zero Year being 11-issues-long. Year One got it done in only four — seems a bit like overkill, but I still have faith. Batman: Zero Year begins this June with Batman #21.

so excited for this
There really does seem to be an incredible lack of imagination in the comic book industry. Is there really a need for ANOTHER origins story nonsense. It is all so predictably boring. I just read Batman: Earth One which was complete boring rubbish. Granted I am probably not the target audience as I am more of a fan of the work produced by Garth Ennis but still.
Idk I am confused about this… He got bit by a radioactive bat right? Or is this the guy who walks around with baseball bats and a hockey mask?
Scott Snyder has been doing awesome things with Batman so I have high hopes for this.
So he’ll be doing Batman AND a Superman title? Is he becoming the Bendis of DC, or is that still Johns?
Anyways, this summer will be the first time ever in my almost 30 year history of reading comics that I’ll be reading Batman and Superman regularly at the same time. That’s kind of a big thing for me.
My worry is that they’ll overextend Snyder. I think he’s a better writer than Bendis but it’s hard to write six quality books a month.
I absolutely LOVE what Synder has done with the Batman books… I’m not a huge superhero comic fan by any means, but his story arcs have been magnificent. and Greg Capullo’s artwork is just brilliant. anyone who isn’t reading Synder’s Batman run is just losing out.
that said, I don’t know how interesting a “Year Zero” story arc would be. we’ve all heard how Bruce Wayne got his start, we’ve been his origin story in about a thousand different ways, told by a hundred different writers. Synder’s been great so far, so I remain cautiously optimistic…
