So, a couple years back 2K Games showed off a FPS take on the classic XCOM franchise, and most gamers were all “eh, no thanks”. In the interim Firaxis went and made a proper turn-based tactical XCOM game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which made everyone really, really hope the XCOM FPS had been taken to a secret bunker and quietly killed.
Well, a few days ago 2K started hinting pretty hard that the game was still on the way, and today they unveiled The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. The big news? The game is no long a first-person shooter — instead the game will be a tactical third-person shooter. Also, it’ll take place during the swingin’ 60s. Ring-a-ding-ding.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified takes place in 1962, and will serve as a prequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. You work for a CIA-like agency tasked with investigating Russia’s nuclear capabilities, but of course the agency’s mandate changes big time when aliens start sticking their probes into Earth’s business.
During battle players will have to play smart, carefully commanding allies where to go and what to do. Sloppy, guns blazing gameplay isn’t recommended as, keeping in line with past XCOM games, allies who die, stay dead.
