‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Finally Gets A Proper Superhero Guest Star

We keep busting the chops of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., not least because it rarely earns the “Marvel” logo that opens each episode. But to its credit, the show is working on that; last week’s episode, muddled though it was, featured the origin of the Blizzard, and, just in time for sweeps week, a real superhero is going to show up.

Who, you might be wondering? The Lady Sif, and she’s not going to make a cameo and leave according to Coming Soon:

ABC announced today at the TCA panel that Thor and Thor: The Dark World star Jaimie Alexander will guest star as Lady Sif in the upcoming 15th episode of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” The only info revealed about the character’s appearance was that she has “come to Earth with a very specific mission.”

Those capable of doing math will realize that, yes, this is a stunt for sweeps; the fifteenth episode will fall on February 18th. We’re assuming this has something to do with Peter MacNichol and his highly entertaining Asgardian character from the first half of episodes. In general it appears that the back half of the season is something Marvel is keeping tightly under wraps: We don’t even know titles for the last nine episodes.

Oh, and in other good news, they won’t be dragging out the identity of “The Clairvoyant” from season to season; we’ll know who it is by the time the show wraps up season one. Honestly, it’s just good news that somebody in either the Disney or Marvel infrastructure has realized that we don’t tune in to hear Coulson explain Skye’s feelings to us, but to see things blow up and the team fight supervillains. Also, Jamie Alexander’s Sif doesn’t get enough attention for our money, so that’s good to see. It’d be nice for this show to actually get on the stick and live up to our expectations.
