Five Games: ‘Lego The Hobbit’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s Telltale Episode

The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 – A Crooked Mile (PC, Mac, Xbox 360 & PS3, Apr. 8th)

Unless Telltale changes their mind at the last second (which isn’t outside the realm of possibility) the next episode of The Wolf Among Us hits tomorrow, and it’s going to be the darkest, wolfiest chapter yet. Just a note for Xbox 360 owners — you’ll have to wait until Thursday to play the game.

This Week’s Playstation Classic Re-Release

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS3, Apr. 8th)

I rarely cover Playstation 2 Classic re-releases in these articles, but hey, we’re thin on releases this week and Persona 4 came out after most people had already abandoned their PS2s, so there’s a good chance a lot of you missed it. The Persona games are a unique (and crazily addictive mix) of hardcore dungeon hacking and high school sim every RPG fan should at least try. At only 10 bucks, you can’t go that wrong.

This Week’s Strategy Game

Warlock II: The Exiled (PC, Apr. 8th)

Ever wish the Civilization games had more magic, zombies and giant turtles? Well, then Warlock II: The Exiled, a 4X turn-based strategy game set in the fantasy world of Ardania should be right up your alley, especially if you’re nostalgic for the cheesy tongue-in-cheek humor of the early Warcraft games.

This Week’s Kinect-fest

Kinect Sports Rivals (Xbox One, Apr. 8th)

Yeah, I know, motion controlled sports games probably aren’t your thing, but at some point you might actually want to use that fancy new Kinect your Xbox One came with! Kinect Sports Rivals is picking up solid reviews and currently looks like your best bet for Xbox One motion controlled fun — come on, you need something to get you through those family gatherings, right?

Pick of the Week

Lego The Hobbit (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita & Wii U, Apr. 8th)

I’m haven’t been crazy about recent Lego games, but hey, everyone else seems to like ’em, so who am I to argue? Lego The Hobbit adapts the first two Hobbit movies, An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug — the third movie will be released as DLC when it hits theatres at the end of this year.

Bit of a slow week — it’s spring and we’re supposed to be out chasing butterflies I guess. Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
